I called a Mitsubishi specialist today, explained to him the problem and he knew exactly what the issue was.

Apparently one or all of the shift fork actuator pistons will have to be replaced, but he also said that the dealership will have to replace the gearbox rather than replace parts that small.

As I told you, the shift forks. As far as I know, Mitsubishi doesn't open gear box to change it. They change the whole gearbox.

Yep, $10,000 dollar part covered by warranty

Still I don't wanna go through that process again, took about 2 months to even get approval from Mitsubishi.

Today car made a weird noise when I backed outta my parking spot, got the cvt hazzard, my car only has 1,3,5th gears which will over rev if i leave it in auto mode, then shift hard two gears ahead of what it should be, manual mode I can switch, but it still delays after a few seconds and still two gears up, I don't autox my car, it only has 98XXXkm its a 2009 ralliart sportback...I'll take it in to the dealers this week and see what they say...

fork four failure in your clutch. It's a common problem with the sst's. I had it happen when I drove from Connecticut to Georgia

Does this require a whole rebuild? Luckily still under warranty

I couldn't tell you. I ended up spending 7400 to rebuild and put in 700hp clutch packs

I had an instance where I lost odd gears and had to leave a stoplight in second. I turned the car off a few minutes later, restarted the car and got my odd gears back.

A persistent issue is that if I engage DFCO in S-Sport Manual from second gear, if I let the revs fall from above 4k, routinely, as the car decelerates (engine brakes) below 3k, I'll get a Transmission Service Required Warning. If I get on the gas below 2k and accelerate above 2k, the warning will go away. It will also go away if I downshift to 1st gear and accelerate above 2k. It will not, however, go away when I accelerate in the higher gears at any rpm, until the next time I slow down to a stop. It will go away in N occasionally as well.

Hey.
I'm reading all of this and thinking..
You all had a recall for the gearbox, because it wasnt working properly. I have the same thing here, the gearbox is clunking, time to time its doing its own thing, its hard and there are times i dont trust it at all anymore. The clutch is slipping and to go R [reverse] it takes some time to get it in gear.
And i didnt know that it costs 11$k or somethin.
I'm from Europe, and my dealership havent told me about such a thing. With the AYC pump was the same, thanks to you guys I got it covered under warranty, but the rules were different for me.
not 100k or 10 years, but 60k and 5years.
They didn't want to cover that thing, but after my message to Mitsu main office they just had to.
You gave me some ideas, proper proof and everything. Thank you for that.
So I was thinking, mabe you could help me out, to this aswell.
That would be so helpfull for people like me here in Europe.
DEALERSHIPS JUST WANT OUR MONEY FOR EVERYTHING.
And if this is a recall, then i think its their fault and they should just cover this.
Gearbox - 11$k, the whole car 15$. isnt that a bit funny or what?
I would like to ask for any help over here. Anything I could add to the letter I'm sending over to Mitsu factory. Cause i know - I will go to the dealership, talk about this gearbox thing and they will just say - it costs 11$, and we can start to work on it tommorow. They will say nothing about changing it for free.
Everything is stock except a chip to set S-Sport mode.
Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart 2011 Sportback
ECU Tune
Stock exhaust
77 777 77km on the odometer.
Serviced only at the dealer
Good condition

Please guys, there have been so many people, who had paid for the gearbox/ayc pump.

There hasn't ever been a recall on SST transmissions as far as I have seen. Your best bet is to get it rebuilt.

Your best bet is to find someone in Europe that does transmission rebuilds.

I had the 09 RA. The SST was pretty much done at a 100k with just a boost pill, at about 4 psi more than stock. It was dragged once at stock power levels back at around 20k where it surprising ran a 14.1. I didn't see a point in putting work into it with the paint rusting, the exhaust manifold cracking, and the tranny slipping & jerking and refusing to go into reverse sometimes so I traded it off for another DD.

This was my last mitsu DD for at least a while until we see what Nissan does with the company. Kind of disappointed. My wife drove it most of the time and we were hyper-miling lol.

It just sucks because the SST was such cutting edge, and the 4b11t was very nice. I wanted to eventually strip this car down and go race-car but the SST didnt pan out and the paint going full rust bucket pushed the additional costs to a prohibitive degree. I don't want to rebuild an SST just to have the same thing happen again.

This is the first time I haven't had a mitsubishi in my driveway for my entire adult life. The older platforms are aging hard and there's no new evo on the horizon. These are dark times, brahs.

My 2009 RA just hit 130,000km. I've owned it since < 20,000km.

It had a boost pill & appropriate tune from 2011 to 2015, and an Evo X TD05 turbo upgrade thereafter.

No dramas with the SST. Periodic fluid+filter changes only.
