SST Extra Cooler

Ive looked around however I cannot find any solid evidence that I'd need an extra oil pump if I were to Install a second oil cooler for the SST in line with the stock one. My plan is to include about 2.5 feet (ish) on the supply and the return sides of tubing to take the fluid through a 19 row mishimoto oil cooler located on my crashbeam. Can any one advise on if a pump is needed; i am on hold with this project till i can find some evidence that will make me feel better.

Thanks all

I don't have any kind of evidence really but i've heard that it can be really hard on the stock pump because it'll end up having about twice as far to pump the fluid and if the cooler is mounted on top of the crash beam it has to be pumped "uphill" too. i'd rather be safe than sorry and just drop the extra ~$200 on a supplemental pump.

I dont think I've seen a quality aftermarket/supplementary TC-SST cooler that didnt include a pump. SSP's cooler is considered by many to be the best when it comes to a complete kit, and they recently released a slightly updated one.

Search - plenty of threads discuss this. If you need an aux cooler, you are driving the car hard enough to need a pump. You'll want to recirc fluid to cool while the car is idling or sitting in the paddock ignition only on.

I have decided to go with a turbo works mini pump capable of 3gpm and am also including a 100micron magnetic filter in line before the pump. All running -6 an fittings going from a drain plug on the bottom of the trans to the fill port on the top (via banjo fittings). Also Vs running a thermostat im going to have the system switchable on and off. Thanks for the input everyone.

i've totally switched my position on this matter. I'm just going to do a nice replacement cooler and run a switchable fan behind it. lol
