Can the stock SST go to 400-450hp?
I need to upgrade to fuel injectors on my 2013 Evo X MR to hit 400-450hp, and I was wondering if I can do that on a stock clutch. I know I need to add SST cooling (it's already running really hot at 345hp), but wondering if I can get away with the $550 AMS or if I need to go the $1200 Dodson.
I'm going to be getting an ETS intercooler (just the intercooler itself, piping will remain stock for now), titanium exhaust wrap, and possibly doing a fog light delete to decrease ambient temperatures.
I'm on a tight budget, and trying to do just enough so it has a good amount of power and won't explode. I'd normally just wait to do it all the first time, but I'm on a tight deadline and the car's supposed to be used in a movie.

I did a DIY one and have some info on my build page on it. I do plan to add the Dodson because I plan to do more auto x and I won't have to use the fan at all except on track days. I think both work great, my opinion though :-)). At the end of the day the Dodson should be a better one. It has no electronics in it.

Dodson for sure. Bringing the trans up to temp quickly is vitally important. From talking to Dodson, when most people get the "slow down" warning, especially at autocross or the drag strip, its from the cold transmission slipping the clutches. Then it gets full power to it and the clutches slip too much, and you get the slow down warning. The over heat temp is like 300*, which is likely only being hit when hot lapping at an HPDE/track day.
Just about EVERY auto trans car made has a heat exchanger with engine coolant. It brings the trans up to temp quicker to improve operation, and is excellent at regulating the trans temp. Why the Evo didn't come with one is mind boggling.

To add to my quote from another thread the Fuego brought in here, the stock SST will handle what the stock short block will handle with proper transmission tuning (Per English racing). That equates to approximately 370-380wtq with the extra power loos through the SST. So you'll be good for 400-450hp.
Once you get into modding a car, you will quickly learn that doing "just enough" to fit a budget is a mistake, and will often cost you more later. Save your pesos and do it right the first time around.
And how do you know your trans is running hot? Do you have a temp gauge?
