MR transmisson wont shift into even gears

Hey guys. I am recently experiencing a problem with my cars transmisson and wanted to see if anyone can give me advice on what to do.

Car: 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR Mileage: 64,000 (out of warranty)

Mods: Speed Circut Wicked Edition Catback (Currently on stock tune)

I was driving normally and sped up a little bit to pass a car. I passed the car and when i let off the throttle my "service transmission" light came on and also my "service engine soon" light came on. My car shifted down from 5th down to 3rd. I came up to a red light and found out that i can only shift into 1st, 3rd, and 5th gear. I got the codes read today and my codes are P1831, P1832, P1833.

I just bought the car from a Subaru dealership on September 29th 2016 and had a 30 day warranty. I went to a Mitsubishi dealership to get the car inspected and asked them to thoroughly inspect the car so i can get everything fixed under the 30 day warranty. They said everything looked great. So of course im out of the warranty now and my trans is giving me problems.

Any advice on actions i should take? Also has anyone experienced this issue before? All help and input would be very appreciated. Im new to the fourms and hoping to get some good info!

I'd check with the place you bought it from first to see if they'll help you in any way, and also see how much the Mitsubishi dealer wants to fix it. They might just want to replace the trans though, which is insanely expensive.

What part of PA are you in? If you are in the western part of the state, you might want to contact ShepTrans in eastern OH and see if they can help you (maybe within towing distance). I think they do repairs for some issues that dealers just replace the trans to address. The other option would be to have the trans shipped to one of the places that does repairs / rebuilds.

I can't help you with what might be wrong but if you search around on the forum you might find relevant information on possible problems.

Me? Clear the codes first and see if they come back.

I have had spurious codes/cleared them/drove fine for many thousands of miles...

If they do come back soon - check grounds i.e. TCU, battery to body, others - these codes indicate low voltage...
Good luck!

Do you know if the transmission fluid has been replaced? If it hasn't or you don't know I would go ahead and replace it.

P1831: Shift fork position sensor 4 system (Voltage low range out)
P1832: Shift fork position sensor 4 system (Voltage high range out)
P1833: Shift fork position sensor 4 system (Output range out)

I know some people might not like Jack's Transmissions but I found this little bit of information on their site that may be helpful.

Your shift fork 4 magnet is loose. Eventually it will fall off. This is the most common reason we have to go inside the case.

Apparently the magnets are not available to purchase so they need to be recemented in place.

Coworker had the same issue with the magnet. His ralliart has about 60k miles. He was pretty upset. Ended up shipping the trans to ssp iirc. Says it runs good as new after the fix/overhaul.
