Replacing Bleed Screws on my Tired Brembos

Hey all,

I'm gearing up for the 2011 track season and my tired Brembo calipers need a couple parts.

While I recently replaced pistons seals & dust boots, the actual screws that you use to loosen/tighten when bleeding the brakes on the front and back side of the caliper are totally beat. They're not completely rounded, but they're getting close. Many years of bleeding fluid has taken its toll.

Girodisc told me to go to the Porsche dealer for these things. Amazingly, the bleeder nut/screw is $32 PER! And the black plastic caps (which I lost mine a long, long time ago) are $4 PER! Replacing all 8, that's $288 + Tax!!!

Does anyone know of alternative solutions?

Thanks!

-Jeff

I got a few from the Mitsu dealer too. I think like $7/screw.

Don't worry about the cap. If you really want one, you can fit rubber end caps at a hardware store for pennies.

Make sure you use an 11mm socket! Not 7/16" wrench.
I made that mistake enough to round off 2 myself.

You can also get the speedbleeders from Russell. They seem to not round off as easy as the stockers. Altho i still seem to round them off after awhile.

You might give zeckhausen.com a call. They are pretty knowledgeable about calipers, parts, seals, etc. They are where I get my seals for my rebuilds, they should have bleed screws.

11mm and 7/16 are actually the exact same size. in fact, the tool manufacturers use the same broach to make them.

you can pick them up @ summit or jegs for way cheaper than that. Get a couple extra and keep them in the tool box just in case, the last thing I need is one of them ruining a track day. and don't forget about the bleeder on the clutch slave.

i would also suggest a motive power bleeder if you don't already have one. its a small investment and saves so much time. speed bleeders + motive bleeder = fast flushes!

btw, if you use a flare wrench on the nut it shouldn't round on you.

I got my speedbleeders from oakosautomotive for $60 shipped IIRC and it's awesome cause you can just leave the bleeder valves open and you just pump the brakes and after the valve inside builds enough pressure it will let fluid out Makes brake bleeding a TON easier.

I <3 you guys.

I'll check out these speed bleeders. Sounds like a fantastic investment.

I've also thought about those speed bleeders as well. I think I'm long overdue for one of those.

They include those little rubber caps when you buy them too I think I can bleed my brakes in like 15-20min(after I get the car jacked up and on jackstands). You really do save LOADS of time with those things

I'm not a fan of speed bleeders. If you're running this thing on the track it's my experience that the speed bleeders leak. All 4 of my bleeders leak when I heat (and overheat) the fluid. I won't use them again on a track car. Could just be my experience. The motive bleeder is a good buy though.

I've heard the same thing from others about the speed bleeders, which is why I carry a couple extra with me just in case. In the 3-4 years I've been using them, and tracking my car(s), I've never experienced any leakage.
