Lightbulb AMS Wet sump pan sealing: Solution

I know most of these pan owners hang out in this section. Just trying to get some input. Here is a link to my original thread in the engine section.

Cheers

I have, but I ain't gonna tell ya

But from memory I think there's only two solutions that have worked. One being *** loads of high quality RTV, torquing down slowly and evenly, and letting it sit there for at least a week to fully dry. The other being what we talked about which is gasketing and studing the pan. Neither are guarantees of course. Not sure what others have done.

The kit comes with studs. That is why I'm looking the gasket route. 12" x 24" x 1/8" Viton rubber sheet is $170!!!!! I'm just blown away with the huge gap at the sealing point between the pan and front cover/oil pump assembly. Roughly 3mm gap!!! With that being so close to the timing belt I don't want to risk getting a leak there and compromising the belt... UGH. I might just glob the Great Stuff and cross my fingers.

The people at Evolution Dynamics feel pretty confident there is no sealing issues with the pans. You may want to send them a message to see what they do to get them to seal.

You can also try having a machine shop flatten the flange up.

I will give them a call, thanks! I also ordered a 1/8" thick silicone sheet MILspec'd rated up to 500F. Attempting to make a gasket similar to Balrok's.

Good point, is the AMS pan itself flat? Could at least take that 3mm down some.

Kevin @ Evolution Dynamics was a great help. After messing with the pan it settled down more reducing the 3mm gap. Going to seal her up with good old sealant. Thanks for the Help!

The studs for the oil return line on the pan were contacting the oil scraper on the inside. Fighting the stud into postion allowed the pan to seat better. I just finished the sealing job.
