But, I'm not too keen on cutting into stock metal.
How about seeing if you can find an used hood at the local salvage yard to make this mod and keep your stock hood intact?

Well this came on today! Can wait till the paint comes in, and nope not nervous about cutting the hood excited actually, there is not a lot of buffer room on the side so I will have to go real slow to get the cuts just right, really don't want to have to do a lot of massaging to get it right, shootingfor 1st cuts out the box 1 and done.... fingers crossed and a few prayers and I think we will be good togo.
That's all for now

I am not keen on anything stock lol, as you can probably tell... I am a head first figure it out as I am on my way down type of person. I guess I figure the way I was tough i.e. "Shade Tree Mechanics" if it don't work get a bigger hammer, and back up plans are for people that plan on failing at plan A.
Not the greatest way of thinking when it comes to, well...everything, but eh I cant take it with me so I might as well have fun with it while it and I are still here.

hope your not planning on holding that down with 3M tape......
I'm actually looking for some side vents from an international school bus. I want them for the hood on my Sonata...... sexy they be if placed right.

I was thinking of doing 3m tape along the outer edges and a high strength epoxy closer to the insides, the 3m tape basically would be so that the epoxy would not bleed out when I stick it down and mess the hoods paint up, act like a barrier. I don't want to use rivets, thinking I might even use aluminum straps on the bottom that wont be seen on the top and covered by the barrier under the hood they will be epoxied on as well, should be solid as a rock by the time I am done.

Sort of like a BASE jumper or extreme cliff skiers.
I can definitely Respect that!
But, keep in mind even HALO jumpers have a Backup/reserve chute.
However, I do know what you're saying..
That vent piece looks really good in fact, better than the ebay photos.
Can't wait to see your completed hood mod.
PS: I've used 3M VHB tapes before, they are quite effective, however I've never used it directly on a "heat source" like the auto hood (esp: during Texas Summers) so perhaps you want to use some clear silicone sealant around the edges after the 3M is set. Just my 2 cents
