A buddy of mine has the Mazda CX-7 with the 2.3L turbo engine and it drinks gas like water. He can't get pass 18MPG on premium gas! (BUT, I've seen how his wife drives... like she's Danica Patrick 80+MPH zipping thru traffic. )

Oh yeah, it requires premium too which negates any 'decent' mpg it gets!

Chiming in on our second new O.Sport 4WD (Black) with 1037 miles on the ODO. We are seeing 24.7MPG in AWD Auto mode 100% of the time in roughly the same commute as we had in the expired Silver..
(But, we are doing a little more street driving than highway since my wife still has abit of the nerves going on that route.)

at 3,064 now and I think the best we can achieve (with 60% street & 40% hwy) driving in 4WD Auto is about 27.1MPG, at least here in Dallas.

One word > Laziness.
Cause, why trouble the wife on when/if to switch modes when you can set it to 4WD Auto and let the computer switch from FWD to AWD by itself for you.
Also, I wanted to see how well the vehicle does (in MPGs) if left alone in 4WD Auto mode... Now I guess we know.
I know we'll set it to FWD eventually, once all the crazy weather has passed.

Best mpg today... 33.29. The trip computer underestimates gas mileage in mine, it reported 30.6 but old school pen and paper at fill up revealed 33.29. It always does that, when I commute back and forth downtown for 2 weeks the computer reports 21 or so mpg but the calculator at fill up reveals 23-25 mpg.

Psh, that's childs play
Unfortunately, I've never actually CALCULATED 38 MPG.
All of these were after at least a 20 mile trip. 2 of the pics are MPH just to show that I actually was on the highway for the majority of the trip.

Hi, new member here. I have to say, this thread is extremely upsetting for me. I have a 2011 Outlander Sport SE AWD that I bought new in November 2011 and my gas mileage has never been remotely close to what people in this thread are reporting.
The car has just over 24,000 miles on it, never modified, and I've done every scheduled maintenance on time. Just had a fuel system cleaning performed, actually, and still no improvement. I usually get only about 19-20 mpg in the city, and that's if I'm light on the gas. If I'm in a hurry it drops to 17-18. I'm lucky if I get 25-26mpg on the highway. I've honestly been averaging about 23mpg for the nearly two years that I've owned the car. I thought it might be due to living in a mountainous city, but on some recent 2-hour drives on long, flat highways in 2wd mode I was still only getting 25mpg with the cruise set between 65 and 70mph. According to Mitsubishi, I should be getting around 31mpg in that situation. I always have it in 2wd mode unless it's raining or snowing. I'm at a loss here, really...I turned down a great deal on a Ralliart Sportback because the fuel economy of this Outlander was so tempting, but it turns out I'm just getting the same economy without the fun.
