buying used Outlander

Hi people
I'm new to you, got an old Transit with tailgate hoist for a powerchair, but is now too big for me so looking for something smaller.
Can't afford a new one so could do with any advice you have for buying an old one, probably up to 4 years old.
Like the look of the Outlander but know very little about them, last 4x4 I had was a Series 3 Land Rover which I sold in 1978.

What things should I look/ask for when I go looking?

I am a retired motor engineer so I know the basics

any help really appreciated!

Cheers Baz

Hi again. had 250+ looks and no reply. What have I done wrong? Surely someone out there can give me the lowdown on a used Outlander? Please?

you did not do anything wrong, just not sure too many people are going to notice things you need to look for besides the obvious like miles, oil change history, tire tread. The only thing I can thing of as far as issues that could pop up are if the previous owner did not get the factory recalls taken care of, like the issued they are having with the pulley belt being to strong and wearing out the pulley and other moving parts. I have found no glaring issued at all with the vehical and I have ad our since 2011.

thanks for your post, the bit about the recalls is just what I need.

I should have been clearer in my first post that I am in the UK and 2.0 and 2.2 DiD units seem to be the ones to go for. It is looking to be a good choice so far.

I'm the only one here that knows what a Tranny van is I'd bet , most are from North America with a couple from the far east too.

We don't have the option of the diesel here so you won't get much feedback on that either. All in all though it's decent car and while a lot smaller than your van I think you'll be happy with it. If you go with the 2.0 petrol be aware that it isn't the best on mpg.

Can't help you on mounting a chair but I imagine you've already looked at that side of things.

Hi mgb, thanks for your post. The tranny is still a good vehicle but old age and arthritis make it impossible to get in and out without wincing.
The 2.2 diesel I know quite well, it is a brill engine and with regular oil and filters should go for ever (nearly)
the wheelchair issue is in hand, I have a 4 way 150kg hoist from a previous car and a mobility specialist will fit it for me.
