1994 Evo 2 - Street/strip build
I bought this car in early 2018 with a blown transmission and worn clutch. It had a built 2.0L with a Borg S475. Long term plan is to put an automatic transmission in and make some other changes.
For the 2018 season, I repaired the transmission and downgraded the turbo to a Borg S363-SXE and a made a few small changes. I went with an ACT 2600 solid 4 puck disc to get the car by.
Day I picked up it up:
S363SXE next to the old cast S475
Transmission and vinyls removed
Freshened up with a used 90 DSM gearset and new synchros
Going back together
Ready for the dyno with the S363.
Found a set of rare 15x6.5 TE37's in white. I had them powdercoated a metallic black and wrapped them in M&H Streep/strip DOT cheater slicks.
Made it to John Whalen in Paw Paw, MI to retune the car on his dynojet. At 36psi we made 667hp/502TQ but unfortunately couldn't get the boost any higher. The car was pretty lazy as well. After some digging around I found a 10" long crack on the left IC end tank. The system held zero boost on a leak test.
After I re welded the intercooler we touched up the car remotely on the street at 43psi. Feels much better now. Now it's time to get it ready for the DSM Shootout.

There wasn't a whole lot to do to get it ready for the Shootout.
I made an undertray so the car was legal for the 9.50 index class I planned to run in. The car only has a 6pt cage in it, but at least I won't cause a large delay if the car explodes.
Loaded up and ready to roll
1st round of qualifying (and first pass ever with this car) I ran a 10.1@147 and the rear diff let go in 4th gear. I believe the burnout may have hurt it). Fortunately the only spare part I brought with me was a rear diff.
After the repair, the car stayed pretty consistent running 10.1-10.3 with 1.6 60's. I qualified 7th out of 16 cars and was eliminated in the semi finals. Overall a great event and did OK for it's first time out.
Now the fun stuff can begin for 2019.

Back in the garage on stands until spring of 2019.
I've sold off the full manual drivetrain, turbo kit and some other items that are being changed.
Chopped the front end off. I'll be doing a tubular front end with removable upper radiator support
Ditched the HVAC
Built a relay board to clean up some wiring inside
I'll be making my own SFWD style exhaust manifold that puts the turbo below the driver side headlight
Starting the season off with a PTE 6270 to compete in IFO FIS (62mm limit for auto 4cyl cars)
Picked up a 3KGT rear diff and bought an evodan (evospec performance) AWS delete plug. This will be supported by a tube rear subframe that I had racefab in New zealand build for me.
Got the motor and transmission back in the car. The transmission is from an auto DSM with billet straight cut transfer gears, billet jeff bush forward drum and kiggly racing billet clutch pack. The converter is a PI billet #6.

I'm shooting for high 8's with the 62mm.
