Just another boring Evo 8

Hello! In a world of Facebook groups I love myself a good old forum post. Growing up always reading build threads for inspiration I finally have a car worth making a build thread over.

So let's start with the basics.... It's an evo 8 with currently 33k on the dash, it was towed up from Texas with low compression and hasn't seen a winter. Aka this car is a complete and utter rarity up here in MA. I purchased the car hoping for the best but expecting the worst. Last time it had hit a dyno it had made 701whp/567wtq on Evolution Dynamics dyno.

Step 1.

Picking it up.

Hope to keep you gents updated!

As I had mentioned it above the car made 700whp.... List of mods as told to me were

4G63 2.3L
280 cams
1650cc injectors
ams fuel rail
aeromotive fpr
uknown 4" intercooler
tial bpv
speed density with aem iat kit
spark tech ignition system
tuned on e85 with a precision 6262 turbo
and an ams manifold.
Currently fuel pump setup is unknown other than it being a dual pump setup.

Now that it is home lets look under the hood some more.

After running my own compression test I received pretty sad results.
115
120
110
100

And as a results I ran a leakdown test which showed 20% loss across the first 3 cylinders and 60% on the 4th cylinder. Upon performing the test on the 4th cylinder we got a nice smell of coolant. So off with the head!

Well this could be a problem.... Hopefully this doesn't set the tone for the rest of the car...

Progress!

Welp look at that nasty thing Thinking things are looking good... Look at that clean 4th cylinder

Nice job so far. What are your plans with the car? Are you just trying to get it back on the road or are you shooting for more mods and power lol

Or so I thought....

After much thought and quotes I've decided I'm going to buy a buschur racing 2.0l long rod short-block. So let the removal and dis-assembly begin!

Welp order was officially placed for the block... 4 - 5 week wait so time to get other things started...

While inspecting the head I noticed this paint/coating over the head on the non moving parts/areas.. From an old DSM forum I found that people used to do this? Something I should be concerned about?

Additionally had the lower intercooler piping fixed and a friend polished it up for me!

Valve cover and fittings off to powder coating....

Now we wait.....

Sorry I was still uploading progress lol

Plans are actually to turn the car down to 500awhp. For starters I don't have lots of access to e85 up here. My only option would be flex fuel but certainly not run the car off straight e85. The car is just a weekend toy. Possibly some track time, few runs at the drag strip, and then drive home.

Welp, spoke with Nick from Buschur on Friday. Sadly the manley rods are back-ordered for a few more weeks. I used some of the down time to pressure wash the engine bay, remove the stickers, and remove the Zeitronix zt-2 3 in one gauge from previous owner. Additionally gave her a quick wash. It's the little things that count.

Yeah it's the happy life haha

Still waiting for my engine so I figured I'd start cleaning up the bay. Starting with taking off the nasty insulation on the firewall.

Wish I had a better camera on my phone but here is the after shot.

I still think this engine bay is too crowded. Might have to start looking into relocating the fuse box....

To occupy my time this weekend I helped my friend make some more progress on his STi.

Then he remembered he owned a Subaru

Anyways... Hopefully Buschur can get their hands on the rods they need and I can get my engine
