MAP REV 3 IM and MILSPEC 65mm TB upgrade

I am posting this review as an FYI for those looking to use these parts as a power mod. The information provided is basic and factual, gathered information from my old, during, and new dyno graphs and data sheets. This is not the most technical post, put gives a good general concept. All dyno numbers were on the same mustang dyno at the same shop by the same tuner. The old numbers are done on 91 octane in September 2008 at about 80*. The new numbers are done on 92 octane in January 2012 at about 58*. There was about a 22* difference (warmer in '08). I don't remember one day being more humid than the other. If it was significant, I would have remembered!!. I always change oils, run injector cleaner, and change spark plugs before each tune. Here it goes:

MODS and numbers before adding MAP REV3 IM/ MILSPEC 65mm TB:

EcuTek via MZM 345hp @ 7367 rpm, 278 tq @ 6048 w/ 91 octane @ 22psi

Apexi RX6 turbo kit, Tanabe Concept G blue 3" TBE, Greddy 720cc inj, Perrin fuel rail, ETS 4" IC kit, 272 HKS cams, Hallman Pro RX MBC, Walbro 255 lph Fuel Pump, HKS SSQV, Sun Auto Cyber Speed HVS & Ignition box, ACT HDSS, Agency Power side & lower motor mounts, Shep transfer/x-mission

Same MODS plus MAP REV3 IM and MILSPEC 65mm TB before tune:

EcuTek via MZM 327hp @ 7178 rpm, 267 tq @ 6161 w/ 92 octane @ 22psi

Same MODS plus MAP REV3 IM and MILSPEC 65mm TB after tune

EcuTek via MZM 355hp @ 7149 rpm, 293 tq @ 5993 w/ 92 octane @ 24psi

Above are the basic results. Upon installation, I lost 18 horsepower and 11 torque, but gained spool. After completion of the tune, I gained 28 hp and 26 tq over baseline with even quicker spool. My peak gain over the old tune was 10 hp and 15 tq. The gain you do not see is my power curved smoothed out and hold to redline. my old graph lost power as I got approached redline and top of the curve looked like an EKG! With the addition of the IM/TB, my power is strong and holds to redline with minimal bumps in the curve, giving me more useable power.

I know there is alot of technical data some of you big time tuning gurus would like to know, but I do not have all the info. This is not intended to sway any decisions, just give basic information for the common guy. Hope you enjoyed!!

Did you Dyno recently before the new mods? That seems strange that you lost power overall. It makes me wonder if you were a little down on power before the install.

Are you sure that the cf and settings etc. Were the same as before?

No I did not dyno recently. All I have to reference is my old tune, baseline after the install, then the final tune. I know there are many variables to be answered, but I did not get that info. I will answer what I can. I am not placing an opinion in this thread about the parts. The car is definitely stronger and runs smoother.

I found it strange I lost power initially as well. Again, many unknown variables.

This is why my cars keep the stock I/M and T/B. There are so many mods like this that vendors sell people into that hardly make any power per dollar.

Thanks for sharing

If no other change was made the before/after AFR curves are a good indicator of increased flow.

to be fair, all you see here are peak numbers, a full dynosheet can show a bigger gain at non peak power. and even if this is the peak gain, if he gained 10 whp and 15 wtq through out the whole revband it could still be worth it. and i know the last result says its at 24 psi, but that could just be a couple hundred rpm spike...

basically what i'm saying is we need a full before/after dyno sheet to call if its a worth while mod, not just peak numbers...

Yeah, I would be interested in seeing the gains throughout the entire pull as well.

Here is the dynograph. I did not get a colored copy, but the gains are easy to see. Hope this answers more questions.

You should ask the bro's as MZM to rescale and smooth that sheet for you.

Gains aren't bad, but you're also showing a 2psi increase.

thats why I wanna see the boost curve to. if its 2 psi increase across board then most of the gains are prolly coming from that, but it could also just be a 2 psi spike for 50 rpm somewhere...

and seeing rpm would be nice...

and is it just me or is hp really low for all those mods?

How much more would you expect out of it on a Mustang dyno at only 24 psi with 92 octane?
