Hi all! I have been doing lots of reading about meth/water ratios yesterday and today, and I cannot decide what is best for my current setup. I am currently running 100% denatured alcohol, and have been for about about 17 months now in my car. I've run through 13-15 5-gallon containers of SLX denatured alky (49% meth, 49% eth) in my car with no issues.

Now that I have map switching working, I don't *need* to have alky available 100% of the time. I ran denatured alky before because it was so easy to find. I am considering switching to methanol or meth/water mix for several reasons:
-all of 2 places in minneapolis/st paul carry it now, one is semi-close to my house
-methanol when mixed w/ water would make running alky cheaper per gallon (running 100% methanol would negate this)
-SLX is a little harder on the alky kit's components from what I've read.
-running a water mix makes the meth less flamable! Safety first!

I'm basically maxed out on my IX turbo (on my VIII). I have every bolt-on one could want for more power from an OEM turbo. I run ~28psi peak, tapering to 23-24.

I've read that 100% meth up to a certain point will yield the most power. I'm running BP92 gas, so I'm guessing this is *probably* the case. Am I already there running 100% denatured alcohol?

Would running 75/25 meth/water (or alky/water) mix be worth it, make the car run more 'safe' more cool, etc w/o sacrificing 'too much' power (i.e. 5whp or less). Would it *possibly* yield more power? Same power?

Same Q as above, but 50/50 mix.

ps--PLEASE lets focus on the water mixture here, not other stuff. Other threads about THIS subject result in people talking about mapswitching, or other such stuff which are trivial in this discussion.

The debate continues. Some people say the most power is to be made from 100% alky, some say the most power to be made is 50/50 mix. The only way to know for sure is to tune on both and see what the power is.

Read that then decide. I'm running 80% by volume and it seems to work pretty well 410 awhp 440 torque with the evo FP green. I don't get all the fear about using meth, ever see what the stuff in you big tank does when it gets hot enough?

Ya, I know the OKIX car is running 50/50, but they run it on top of C16 (or similar). I'm running BP92. 410whp/440wtq on what dyno?

Thanks for the advice guys, more please more! Anyone saying 100%, any reason why vs 50/50? I am really leaning towards 75/25 for a nice 'mix of both worlds' as some say 50/50 is only for 'high boost' cars on high octane gas, and that 100% meth is whats needed....I just don't know...

Anyone have any DIRECT experience with 100% denatured alcohol vs 100% methanol? Any difference?

50/50 is recommended by a majority of companys that produce these kits. Aquamist being the pioneer that started it for Autos, suggest 50/50 because it uses both properties of the two mixtures the best.

Water removes more heat from the cylinder suppresing knock and cooling temps 40+ degrees! Allowing for more timing more boost and leaner AFRs

Methonal has a lower viscosity allowing for better atomization and even distribution to all 4 cylinders. Also it cools air intake temps down. Also it raises your octane level which also prevents predet allowing for more timing and boost. Since methonal is a fuel it takes the place of some of the gas you would normaly have, so you have to lean out your AFRs...

Note: if you want to run %100 meth you have to run 2x's as much to get the effect you want. You might as well spend the money on switching to E85 for the same effect 100% of the time.
Running a 50/50 with water will give you a safer more controlled burn and the power you are looking for. Plus you wont have to run as much with water/meth and your tank will last much longer than %100 meth. = less money spent on meth.

Update, I got my hands on some methanol finally. Switching to 100% methanol did not yield substantial gains over the SLX Denatured Alcohol I normally run, if any at all. I was hoping to raise the timing a few degrees, but the car would just knock so I skipped it.

I'm out of town for the rest of the week, so I'll try mixing some distilled water into the mix when I get back and see how the car responds.

I'm looking at 100% meth myself. I'm a basic bolton IX with 93pump so I'm sure this is the way to go for me.

What do you think of 200 proof Denatured alcohol, I'm curious to know if it would work...
