BlackTop Ink's Built Not Bought Project 03OZ
This is my 2003 Lancer OZ
Project "Built Not Bought" Finally getting ready to paint after 4months of working this project so I wanted to share it with you guys as I have been around reading and watching but not yet posting. In short I have a few before pictures and then current as of 9/2012 pics prior to paint. Which then Ill update as I go. I do have about 500progress pics so if there is any interest in them i can always put them up too, but didnt want to have a novel thread of boring building pics. So what is behind the project, simply put Built Not bought. I wanted to re-build the whole car (junk yard car to start with) by hand and as much as I can by scratch. Phase One: Custom Hood: (fiberglass Bonnet) Custom Front: Bumper (fiberglass graph off original bumper) Custom Rear: Bumper (fiberglass graph-original design) Custom Headlights: (projectors from WRX Headlight, fully fiberglassed housing) Front Fenders: (Headlight Delete and reshape) Side skirts: (Fiberglass Graph from original side skirts with 3" extention) Trunk: ( real carbon fiber overlay/ bonnet style, replaced trunk skin) Spoiler: Evo Look alike - traded I will be adding side vent to the rear bumper behind tire just havent made up my mind yet on style or design. Before, or as is when I got it. http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...2212114941.jpg Currently, as of 9/1/2012 Awaiting primer and base color. http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...0212141930.jpg http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...0212141852.jpg http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...0212141839.jpg http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...0212132903.jpg HeadLights, Halo Only http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/...36IMAG3004.jpg Ofcourse, being a junk yard car, I have had to do a massive amount of repair on the car as it is already. Only real upgrades are Swift Sprints Clutch NGK Spark Plug and Wires Custom Air Intake (nothing special) New Head Gasket Kit.... and a million and one dents and dings to fix. Phase two: Is this week project as i get ready to paint. Repair Rims, Paint Repair Exhaust, fab Y Pipe and Tail Pipes. Anyway let me know what ya guys think, I am sure itll be a love or hate thing but I welcome both. You guess can view my website (custom paint and airbrush) or check me out on facebook, have some progress pics there too. Thanks, and hope to meet and talk with everyone here!!! Simplicity is key, the huge holes and slits in the rear bumper are an eyesore as well as all the unnecessary bumps and shapes on the hood.
On the bright side, to handle all that custom work on your own is amazing! I couldn't fathom the time or skill it takes to accomplish that... Suggestion: Since you're doing everything custom, why not focus on a wide body kit by pushing the fenders out a bit. Then you can stick some mean wheels in there. I would rather see that than the extravagant bumpers you've stuck on there Good luck  |

First off thanks for the feedback
Bulky, yes I wanted to give the body more body sorta speak. The Rear, yes not my fav aspect on the car but I was in a spot of what to do...so I created the cetia body line in order to break up the large massive area. the vents/slits were to simply release the dragging air , and I did want to do dual exhaust/tail pipes, although I was NICELY beaten to that idea WideBody, This is a BIG YES and would of loved to of done already, problem is to pull fenders once, is one thng but twice wouldnt be good....so that means i need rims prior to the pull so that the fittement and balance is a good as it can be. I ve looked for 17" with no real luck, even been hunting s13 17" stock 5 spokes, still cant get a set....so I will have to wait the time, yes so far the biggest investment the skill, is def imporving with each area and section the #1 question of why.... honestly to have fun and be different, do something different... I really like custom cars and trucks and love seeing creative designs and the art of it. I guess this is my way of showing ppl that with a lil money some material and a lot of effort you can create a unique car....a true custom. I could of spent $$$ and bought a kit, but i am sure there are others a google search away that will look just like mine....this way I get to do something cool.... and yes, there are some nice rides on the forums, so dont attack me for that statement, lol but Idk, just my thing i guess.... Dare to Be Different Rj :) |
If u ever decide to go turbo..hit me up.
A+ on the custom work. |
Ive had crazier thoughts then turbos, but if i did boost?
Im looking at motor swap+ I did some R&R, but didnt really find any promising outcomes, but no, i didnt really dig deep into the upgrade. I kinda seen the stock specs and a few turbo swaps on stock motors... The eclipes swap seems more pratical stock/stock vers stock |
Sorry, i mean it as, or better said as
A Stock eclipse motor swap would be more promising vers oz motor+turbo upgrade. Or am i wronge? |
Either way its good...guess it just depends on your budget...i am a big fan of the 63 or 64 motors...the turbo 94 thing will depend on preference. Just pick your poison. So to speak
|
Yeah thats true, 63/64's, but whats the most likely #HP to see outta of one?
Guess a Chevy 350 would be frowned on, even if rear wheel? |
nice fab wwork , but the kit is horrible and doesnt flow with the body of the car
|
I like it all even the bumper, keep it up post more pictures when its painted. and 5 spoke wheels would be sweet man.
