Stereo install question...

Hey guys, just had a new HU installed in the wife's Lancer today, and there's a gap around the sides... what's the deal? I thought the Mitsu stereo was a standard size... is there some ring or something that didn't get installed?

I'll get some pix tomorrow, and post them up right here, but if anyone has an idea, let me know. Thanx!

There's probably some bezel trim piece that should go around the new radio that the installer kid couldn't figure out how to put on.

Actually, most bezel trim pieces don't work on the lancer or evo because the gap is so tight around the HU, and the HVAC trim piece is fairly thick. You can probably cut some double sided tape to put the trim piece in, but it probably won't snap on like it's supposed to. Also, detachable face head units stick out more than other units.

take it back to the shop and tell them to put the radio trim ring back on and to iso the radio back even further so it butts up tot he back of the dash.

i had the same problem when i did my stereo. the holes on the stock deck mount lined up putting the deck either too far in or too far out, making the trim piece either not fit, or look like crap. so i cut out the metal in between the holes on the mounts so it could slide to the right depth. kinda ghetto but it worked perfectly.

We ended up just leaving it as is. It's her car and she doesn't mind, so... (shrug)

All you have to do to make the bezel work is to put a washer on each mount screw between the mount piece and the dash. This moves the head unit out just enough to let the bezel snap in.
