A few months ago I got my hands on a set of rims (R.A) and these were only going to be for my track tires - did not like the silver colour so got out a tin of paint stripper and cleaned off the original paint and under this was a really nice polished silver - I ended up just leaving it the polished look...
got any pics of em

Well after seeing this thread I decided to do my rims and calipers too
These ones I took with my phone, actually better pics of the rims on my camera, I'll upload those later today. But I have some good before and after....the before pics were so rusty and gross...100% better now...
yes, I got some on my rotor lol...lazy masking job, but it came off on the ride home

- I sanded with 400 Grit
- 3 coats of Primer
- 5 coats of Low glass Black
- I did 2 clear coats
For the Calipers
- Sanded
- Degreaser
- 5 coats of red Caliper paint
- Placed the Ralliart Sticker (got it on Ebay ages ago)
- 4 clear coats on top of that
Calipers should definitely last!

I did the rims myself and the calipers, I basically followed the instructions from the Evo How to:
- I sanded with 400 Grit
- 3 coats of Primer
- 5 coats of Low glass Black
- I did 2 clear coats
For the Calipers
- Sanded
- Degreaser
- 5 coats of red Caliper paint
- Placed the Ralliart Sticker (got it on Ebay ages ago)
- 4 clear coats on top of that

for the rims...is that just typical spray paint? or is it a special paint? And what was the total cost to do it?

Ya, its will be an all day sort of job, its mostly the drying process that adds so much time.
I did it over two seperate days actually, 4-5hrs each time (Did calipers too)
Corton520
I used high temp Engine Enamel as per the instructions, great for the heat and lasting. So Low gloss black.
Counting the mask, newspapers, caliper paint, engine enamel, primer, degreaser, I would say it cost me around $100.
I was going to pay $800 for some flat black rims anyways, the stockers are Enkei and I get the same look...money saved can be better spent elsewhere

i painted my wheels gunmetal and calipers red this last feb.
they are both holding up good, it was a pain in the ***, very time consuming! i got tired of the white ra w/gunmetal wheels, it looks too (ricey) for my taste so i went back to regualr stockies and have the painted ones sitting in my garage!
