Engine Swap Progress Report #2
Engine Swap Progress Report #2
Another engine swap progress report. Back in April, I said I'd be doing the swap in June, however, I'm taking more time to RRM the 4G69 up before it goes in the car.
I now estimate August for the actual swap process.
Anyhow, here's whats been going on since last time:
1). Painted Rocker Cover Black, polished the Diamond logo and MIVEC to a mirror finish.
2). Swapped Intake Manifold for RRM's ported and polished - painted black.
3). RRM Lightweight Pulley
4). Cleaned up the other pulley's and tensioners
5). Polished lots of gold bits to be silver instead!
What we've got left to do before the swap.
1). Fit AC, PS and Alternator, then put the belt on.
2). Fit RRM Lightweight flywheel.
3). RRM's Header/Downpipe (Im in the process of buying this now - so expect pics when it arrives).
What you dont see in the pics that we also have are: throttle by wire sensor, T-By-W bracket, engine wiring harness, ECM, RH drive axle, starter motor, motor mounts, and other bits and bobs.
To anyone in the USA thinking of swapping a 2.4 into their 04-06 lancer - its easy, but VERY involving and expensive... I must have spent about $10,000 so far - but we have no 2.4's in the UK (due to high fuel cost and gas-guzzling engines being unpopular) - my lancer ralliart is a 1.6! But not for long!

Lets see...
Engine = £2000 that is about $4000
Parts: about £1000 = about $2000
RRM bits, will be about $2000
So its more like $8000!
Either way, I'm getting what I've always wanted... so the money is not a problem, although the earning and spending of money is one reason why this has taken about a year to get this far!
Thanks for the comments. I'll next get some photos when the RRM header and aux units are on.

My you are a strapping looking fellow!
Just kidding. In the pic where you are holing the IM, you look a bit weary.
Keep up the good work....I love the flat black painted look on the valve cover (I may have to "borrow" that idea)!

Well thats not me in the pics, thats my mate Carl, he is a Toyota Engineer, and is quite good at doing things right.
Carl did the mirror finish with varying grades and wet&dry sandpaper, and a bit of motor oil to stop the sandpaper wearing away as fast.
To paint the valve cover and leave the logos clean, he put candle wax on the logos and spray painted over. The paint doesnt stick to the wax and it can be easily removed afterwards.
I'll get a close up of the valve cover soon! Just ordered the header so I'll put that on next week or two I'd imagine! Then it should look hot!

This is straight swap - the car is perfectly able to take this engine without any modifications.
An Evo engine requires modifcations.
We have plenty of turbo cars over here, 2.0 Turbos are everywhere - what we dont have are 2.4 Straight-4 engines - almost unheard of in a car this compact - thats big respect here. The biggest straight-4 engines we have are 2.0.
You also have to remember our pumps run 98 Octane Fuel - and magazine tests have shown that the 2.4 Lancer over here on 98 Octane is capable of 6.x 0-60 down from 7.x on US Fuel. Now that is fast, compared to a 9.5s 0-60 of the NA 2.0 4G63.
My 1.6 has a 0-60 of 11s, but with 98 Octane its closer to 10. They advertise it as knocking a second of any fuel injected vehicles 0-60 - only problem is it is £1.10 ($2.50 about) a liter.
Im not after the fastest lancer, and I dont want a turbo, I'm just aftet the fastest NA lancer, and this is the route to go.

Yeah ill get that too!
I think the main reason the UK has such high octane fuel is that we are dependant on middle-east imports.
The USA has its own oil reserves which I assume it uses to be less reliant on middle-east oil, but its well known the fuel from the middle east is better quality.
