Tinted tail lights

Howdy everyone, I decided to tint my tail lights. Check them out here. This is what I used . It's a much cheaper option than getting ES tail lights.

Haha looks good. I also did this about 3 months back. I agree it looks much much better than the oem chrome look.

I was thinking of placing black tint on the bottom part of the lights but again, I'm not sure how legal/safe it would be. It would look good though :P

Looks good.I did something similar to my 8.I used blue fineline tape to tape the signal part it had a nice mold line to follow, then scuffed the rest with gray scotchbrite.I used basf glasurit clearcoat and just dumped some red into it.It worked great I cannot stand the clear chrome look,IMO it just looks cheap.saved myself $700 instead of buying jdm 7 tails.

I'm not a fan of the black tint on tails but the red does look much better then chrome. I agree with 95gst16g, i think the clear lens with chrome backing looks cheap. In my opinion when it comes to clear lens and colored backing: Black>Red>Chrome.

I would like to paint my taillights color matched to the car. I'm having trouble find a good match in a spray can. (short of getting a can mixed, which I want to avoid) There is so much unused taillight area on the sportback.

I was also thinking of making a fiberglass cover, to maintain the integrity of the factory taillight.

Something like this...

Why not find a vinyl company to get some colour samples. They may have a silver that will match pretty damn close. That way you can put it on and cut out any design you want, and if it doesn't work for you peel it off and try again. Or if you want to get fancy, why not try some of that carbon vinyl?

You know, vinyl is a great idea. I will head over to the vinyl shop today. I might get the hood done that way too.

Thanks.
