So my turbo is blown...seems my oil feed line failed starving the bearings. I have received a replacement. It's what is commonly known in the DSM community as a "bastard" 20g, basically a hybrid 16g with a 20g compressor wheel. Stay tuned for pictures.

When you say that the line failed, did it become blocked or have a leak ?
Is there something you can do differently to prevent it from happening again ?

good question, upon inspection, I found the rubber hose cracked/split lengthwise inside the steal braid and oil pissed out the back of the AN connector...my best guess to prevention, would be a heat shield, It looked like it cracked from heat, rather than bursting due to pressure, but I could be wrong, I will be reworking my oil feed in the future, perhaps feeding from the head, as it's more accessible from the top, easier to work on/replace, and it would be a much shorter run.

Well, well, well...Turns out the 20g compressor at 16psi was just too much for my engine I went out with a bang, and a very thick cloud of oil smoke.

Cause of failure is unclear...probably either detonation, metal fatigue or oil starvation...I recovered several tiny pieces of piston, rod, and crank case off the road around the oil slick it left behind...it looks like only cylinder 4 failed. dissection and inspection of the motor will come after I get the new one installed and running.

I have a replacement engine on a stand in the garage that I just finished installing the water pump and timing belt on...

Pictures to follow.

Here are a pair of holes in the back of the block, the big one is about as big as if you make a circle with your index finger and thumb.

New water pump and timing belts is a no brainer.

Here's the improvised tensioning method I'm always trying to explain to people. I think I even drew it in MS paint.

Never thought of that tensioning method. I'll have to remember that. I used some tiny old needle nose pliers that had been heated up and bent to a nearly 90* angle.

Im interested in seeing the dissection of the blown motor. Curious as to what actually happened if you can even tell at this point.

Im surprised your keeping the balance shafts. After having that tiny belt fail on me and break my engine I'll probably never put one back in. Plus the delete didnt add any vibrations like people said it would.

So you just gunna bolt your turbo stuff on and run this engine as is for now? gunna stay below 10psi? or are you adding head studs too?

i won't know for sure until i take it apart...

my goal here is minimum downtime because i only have 2 cars...my daughter started school this year so my wife works weekdays now, so we need both cars. the block i build will not have balance shafts.

yep, swapping head studs 1 for 1, new upper seals and accessories and dropping her in. i will run wastegate pressure until i have a built motor waiting on the sidelines.
