GTX3071R vs. GTX2867R - opinions needed
Motor is 2.4L 4G69 MIVEC
I'm torn between these two. The GTX3071R is a higher horsepower turbo than the GTX2867R, but for my horsepower goal, both are capable. I'm told the GTX2867R works fantastic with 2.0L, but for a 2.4L build, it's recommended to up the exhaust to 0.86 AR - which is diverting from the GTX2867's ideal 0.64 AR, effectively lowering its performance capabilities. The GTX3071 and GT3076R are both known to work better with a 2.4L build but are maybe a bit overkill for my build? (horsepower goal 350whp on FWD)
The GTX28 is also an internal wastegate design so I'd have to have the flapper screwed open or welded to accommodate the external wastegate design i'm after.
Which turbo is the best choice for the 2.4L 4G69?

Lol, I don't know whether to be grateful for offended... I'm no expert by any means, but I will offer my opinion.
I personally would go with the 2867...it won't make as much power as the 30r's but it's all relative...are these 2.0 motors they works great on running 35psi and revving to 9000rpm? for low boost (6-16psi) the 2876 will do just fine, and it will spool much quicker...it really depends on what you want to do with the car...if your building it for primarily drag racing, go with a 30r with a larger A/R...if you want it to be peppy in the lower rpm ranges and build boost fast, then go with a 28r, with the largest exhaust A/R you can get. I wouldn't want anything that didn't hit full boost after 3,200. but that's just me.
example
if a 30r can make 450hp at such and such rpm, on whatever motor, which so much boost...(see where I'm going?) it may make that power at higher boost and higher rpm than you intend to run.

If you do decide to do the GTX2867R I have A TIAL0.86 housing here that's vband in/out and does not have the internal wastegate. It was too laggy for my 2l subaru but as I told you would be more appropriate for your 2.4l. I still stand by my recommended GT/GTX30 choice.

I think the GTX30 is the best bet, I agree. I am doing an AWD swap now on my vehicle (i purchased a wrecked 2006 outlander 5spd awd) so the higher horsepower GT/GTX30 isn't as overkill as it may have been previously when the intention was boosting with FWD...

Mike doesn't like small turbos he's always giving me ****...but I like quick spooling.

I'm running a standard DSM big 16g...would love to have an Evo III 16g. the 16g's are a bit on the small side, but I really like the quick spool...the Evo 8/9 16g's are twin scroll (hence the larger inlet) that will help with spooling...on a budget the 16g's work fine with this motor.

that's pretty good...how many miles on it? I paid $200 for my big 16g had maybe 10k km on it, and it came with an actuator, spare hotside, and a spare 14b center section w/ compressor. then I sold the 14b as a complete unit for $100 (new actuators on ebay worth about $50, and the hotside was a freebie) so I really paid $100.lol
next I may even try the Evo 3 GT knock off...RRM's been using it for years...and all their failures are tuning related
