o2 sensor PITA

Well after a long PITA (rusted) with the two bolts that bolt up the mid pipe and downpipe together i thought that **** would be over. I was wrong, the o2 will not budge, i mean while spending almost an hour stripping the mother ****er i didn't even make an 1/8th of a turn. It's pretty much a nice circle now, how ****ed am i? Any ideas? Thanks.

Should have heated it up good and hot with a propane or MAPP gas torch, first.

If you have a big enough pair of locking pliers or a pipe wrench, you can hold the pipe in a vise, torch it hot, then turn the O2 out.

EDIT: For clarity, torch the bung on the pipe until it's hot, don't torch the sensor.

Heated it up with a propane torch, got a vice grip around it pretty damn tight and it still wouldn't budge. If i install it without the o2 sensor what will happen? Will i just throw a CEL? I've pretty much given up hope getting that ***** out of there. Which one of these would i need? oxygen sensors

If you install the pipe without the sensor in there, you'll definitely throw a CEL. Your car will probably run like crap because it has to use canned values for air/fuel. Not to mention the noise a 3/4" hole in your new exhaust will make.

You'd want this one:

#BS15591 Oxygen Sensor Bosch $183.95
Fits App: 2004 – 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer

Engine – Chassis:
2.4L, 4 Cylinder, GAS, FI — Sportback

Description: OE TYPE OXYGEN SENSOR - BEFORE Catalyst, Original Equipment Replacement

OR, of you're feeling handy with a soldering iron and want to save yourself $140, you can get this one:

#USOS-4000 Oxygen Sensor Replacement $42.16

Fits App: 2002 – 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer

Engine – Chassis:
2.0L, 4 Cylinder — Lancer
2.4L, 4 Cylinder — Lancer

Description: OXYGEN SENSOR -- Oxygen Sensor. Univeral Type, 4 Wire 20cm Long, w/o Connectors, Ground Shipping Only

Soldering is no problem, looks like i'll go wrestle with it for a while and see if i can get lucky. If not i'll be placing an order for that tonight, and i'll have to drive around a 92 grand am for a little.

It's too late for that O2 sensor, but in the future, an O2 sensor socket might be a good investment for you.

Yea it was looking pretty beat up after a while of trying everything i could think of to get it out. So in frustration i took a nice hammer to it and smashed the **** out of it. Boy That felt good. How much does the dealership want for one of these?

You can buy those sockets at any local autoparts store, they're very common.

I feel a little better lol but not the fact that I had to spend 50 bucks for a new one. I just tracked the shipping on it and it's ****ing delayed so I won't get it til the 23rd.

I'll let you know how it goes, i'm hoping it'll be pretty easy, it's only four wires.

It's my understanding that the wires are somehow difficult to solder. I haven't tried it myself, but a local friend said he had a hell of a time getting solder to stick. He may not have fluxed them or heated the wires enough, though, who knows. Let us know how it goes.
