Don't forget the Galant (04+) has the same 2.4L also. Just the intake manifold is different, but all you need is the block anyway.

 

What's the difference between a engine and a shortblock or are they one in the same?

 

longblock is head and block, all the goodies just bolt it in
shortblock is just the block with rotating assembly, pistons, rods, crank.

also note, that the 4g eclipse has the same 4g69

 

^^^ Oh ok, because the dealer said I just need the shortblock. I don't know if I should just pay more for the long block or go even cheaper and get the short?!
I don't think they came in 5spd though, just auto.

 

Doesn't matter, everything on the engine side is the same.

 

The main metal parts in the trans should last forever (or at least, until the rest of the car/engine falls apart). A stress failure is really a defect. Can't really just be called wear or use. I mean it's kind of like asking how soon the engine will throw a rod. An engine should never throw a rod under normal circumstances, no matter how many miles are on it.

Of course that is assuming the trans oil is changed occasionally.

Also, launching and such things aren't great for the transmission, but FWD transmissions without LSDs have it pretty easy. Certainly the easiest among drivetrains.

As for how common these defects are, my guess is not common, otherwise we would be hearing more about it.

It's been awhile since Ive been in this thread and no I haven't fix my car yet , but I just got a deal on a used tranny and engine, 62k miles on both with a 6 month warranty for $950, should I jump on it? Both parts are from a 2004 ralliart.

 

Well I know Ralliart on LSD is selling his tranny for like 400 range. So it sounds alright... If it means getting back up and going... i'd do it.

 

That is a great deal and it comes with a warranty. I would not pass it up if I were you.

 

Yeah, I think I'm going to jump on it, to good to pass up! Now I just need somebody who can do the labor for a good price. Anybody have a round about idea how much it would cost me to do such a thing?

my clutch was burnt out a few weeks ago and ****ty as napa auto parts were gonna charge 700 for the clutch kit ALONE! **** that and **** napa auto

 

Heh you can buy a stage 1 clutch for less than that
