hitting the 14's
i want to hit the 14's in the ra and thinking what to install. i was thinking that the:
road race piggy back, cold air intake, high flow cat and 2.5" piping with tanabe muffler would get me low 15's but not sure. i was wondering what quarter mile times you guys were throwing down. drag radials would prolly help out a lot too. just looking for your insights. |
There's a boat load of things that can be done NA... the things you mentioned, downpipe, port and polish the heads, bore out the intake manifold, you name it...you could get there easy with enough time, dedication, and of course money. I would say get the piggy, cold air, and high flow cat with some better tires and see what you put down. you would probabley be pretty close...

Also, If you haven't seen, in the Registry their are some timeslips of two ralliarts. Ralliart@PDX got a 15.370 with a k and n drop in filter and some better rubber which sounds pretty good.

yea, with good driving, those mods u mentioned may be enough to get you 14s. with the tire, i think its deffinatly doable. maybe some clutch work (its cheap anyway) and motor mounts too

If you want to jump straight to power you can feel, the best thing you can do is port and polish the heads. If there were pistons and cams out for it that would be the next best thing to do. Yeah you can get intake, exhaust, hi flow cat, etc, but dont plan on feeling anything from that kinda stuff. The piggyback ecu is definitely nice, though I do not have it, most aftermarket customized ecu's are gonna do some major damage, except for the jet chip.

there used to be a guy on here who ran 15 flat with intake short shifter and exhaust. he is gone now but his name is still up with his time slip. i rep 838 i think is the guy

14's should be doable with an intake, piggy, and a good driver. Tires would help, as would a catless downpipe.
|
^^^ yeap.
I/E/DP and a good launch and you can do 14's easily. Some guys just don't know how to launch/shift. A good driver in the RA can easily do 15.0-15.3! Throw on some toys and that same guy has high 14's, throw some more toys and the same driver & mid 14's...

i'm not a very good driver. haha. i went to the track and my best time was 16.0 no mods. i launched around 3500 and 4000. kinda slipped the clutch to so i wouldn't spin the whole way through first. i shifted around 6100. i know that aint redline but i seen we get max hp at 5750 and didn't think it would help to go past that much cause of losing power then.

what is the elivation where you live? I'm in Utah, so around here you add about a second to the time you would run at sea level. If at sea level a CAI and good tires with the right driver will run 15 flat. Add an ECU and your in the 14's. Thats the great thing about this car. It has potential. Practice launching at about 2000-2500 rpm's and try to NOT let the tires slip as much as possible. Then don't be afraid to run it to red line. You should be doing 55 mph in second gear and I think 80mph in third.
