Mandatory Maintenence?
keep all your receipts, cause they can block any warranty on the car if the service isn't follwed. we had a guy at Infinti that had his 04' G35 Coupe who had his warranty voided as Infinti had no record on file of any maintanence, and he couldn't prove any oil changes are fluid changes.... they came down too hard in my mind, but they give you a maintanence schedule for a reason.... just keep the maintanence close to the specified km's and keep receipts and you'll be fine.

yeah, I think I will take my car to the mitsubishi dealer soon. I already have a lifter click and i don't want it to get worse. Thats good to know about mitsubishi filters. Yeah, I think Jiffy Lube sucks. They're quick and convienient but they tried to sell me a whole bunch of service. They told me that my car was burning oil and I should go with a $30 engine treatment. I told them no, that it was a new car. Yeah, you guys reminded me why I should go back to the dealer. Thanks

I took my car to jiffy lube 1 time. after spending 10 mins telling the guy it was a 2.4 NOT a 2.0 and he kept argueing i got the owners manual out of the glove box and showed him. he just said, "oh". i was like wtf, it's my car i know what it has in it just change the oil and let me get on my way. he asked me what MIVEC was, so in order to avoid another long winded exchange i just said it's like a VTEC. damn oil monkeys.
Interesting... I take mine to a local lube place called 'lube & late' and they are really good. They sub Castrol GTX at my request. In fact, the only problem I have there is they drool all over the car (one of the guys even offered to buy it from me). Sometimes, I can't believe the amount of attention this car gets! Save all your reciepts.

yeah, when I went to Jiffy lube, I had to explain that it wasn't a normal lancer. Nobody knows what our cars are. Thats why I put the ralliart sticker in the back window.
I do all my own maintenance. It would be pretty sh*tty of Mitsu to require everybody to pay for them to do the scheduled maintenance, or have your warranty voided.
The only thing I worry about is an early timing belt failure. That's what killed my Talon. I changed the timing belt in it every 60k miles, as scheduled, and it let go at 50k the last time.
Edit: Woot. I'm evolved.

It is normal for a car thats new to loose oil in the first months of use. My tech told me its normal because with normal use, oil tends to fill empty spaces in the motor. The mandatory maintenance for Mitsubishi is 12,000 kms or 7,500 miles. But for a little peace of mind you may change the oil before that, lets say at 3,200 miles (5000km). You are lucky that in the States you may do this almost anywhere as long as they use the correct kind of oil. Here in Mexico is mandatory to keep the warranty to do all services in the dealership, luckly for us this brings more people to the showroom!!!
