question for stereo people...

quick summary. my passenger side door speaker does not work. after bypassing the amp, it still didn't work. and i tested the speaker, it's no good. then i hooked a good speaker up to the plug and it doesn't work. factory won't warranty anything because the guy who had the car before me put in a JL component system.

my guess...the speaker blew and took that channel of the amp with it. ???

any suggestions? how would i bench test the amp? btw, i don't think the speaker ever worked since i had the car...i just noticed it the other month and i'm not getting to it.

fyi...04 ralliart w/ S&S package

Do you have a voltmeter? You can make sure there's the right amount of resistance between the amp...my amp broke and we had to do that, dunno what they put the negative terminal of the tester on, but that's how we found out it was the amp and not the speaker...amps go bad randomly sometimes, it could've gone bad and that could be what blew the speaker....just some suggestions, try the speaker in another car, and that channel of the amp with other speakers, if you can

yeah, i can take the seat out and test the channel coming out of the amp. i just have to remember which one it was! crap!

i did put the speaker in another car and it didn't work. i then put a speaker i knew was good in my car and it didn't work.

btw...all the plugs are hooked up and tight.

real quick. since i hooked a good speaker to the plug and it didn't work, then i know the amp is bad, right? and since i hooked my speaker up to a good amp and it didn't work, then i know the speaker is bad, right?

a shop downtown said they repair factory amps for $120. now is that worth one speaker? i have fixed amps before but only minor stuff, and that was ages ago.

opinions?

Maybe its just a break in the wire somewhere. Try hooking up a good speaker as close to the amp as possible on that channel, just to eliminate the chances of a broken or pinched wire.

They guy might've cut the wire at some point to tie the door speakers into his own amp. First thing you need to do is to check continuity on that wire.

well, i'm getting a device we use at work to check network connections. it's kinda like what the telephone companies use to see if a line is working. i'm gonna probably check this out monday...cause i'll be traveling til then. will keep you posted on what i find.

p.s. if you buy a used vehicle...even if it's only 4 months old and has 13000 miles on it...find out what the hell people did to it!
