my weeKend project

this weekend i will be:

-installing custom mesh (including mesh down by fog lights)
-smoking tails
-smoking heads & removing orange peice
-installing new bulbs

my b/f is helping me a little bit... he doesnt really work on cars. But, ive printed out all the info i need... atleast I hope. And hopefully I can finally get this sh-t done.

ill post pics of what i get done.. hopefully it will be everything.

the only thing im confused about is removing the tail lights... any tips to help?

also, is it necessary to remove the front bumper to take out headlight?

oh yea, can anyone suggest a good brand of paint for the smoking tint/and for painting the mesh?! what color should i spray the mesh if i have a thunder grey ralliart?! (im thinking of getting the same grey color, or chrome?)

thanks a lot!

- Tail lights - open the trunk. There are two scres holding the tail lights in. You can only seem them if you open the trunk. They are not on the inside of the trunk, it is just the lid covers the screws up so you can't see them.

- Headlight - If it is similar to the 02-03 models, you should not have to take off the bumper to take the headlight out.

- Paint - I wouldn't use regular paint on the lights. It would cover them up so you can;t see through. You should use a paint called Night Shades and spray them. It is clear black and tints them so you can still see through. Do the mesh black.

you can buy a cheap version of a dremmel at harbor freight or pep boys but i dont know the quality. you can also use a cut-off wheel for yor drill but it wont be as precise and you may mess it up.

If you're using the Dremel for cutting the mesh to fit, try side-cutter pliers or tin snips.

If you were planning on using it to cut open your tails for painting, DON'T substitute with anything less precise.

I'd like to know how you get the orange piece out of the headlights too. Looks like you'd have to take the big clear cover off. That's glued on right? Getting it off would be no problem, just dunno how you'd put it back on. Cant wait for pics

Be careful with that paint. you might go so fast that the paint will fall off with your race car. so put plenty of clear coat..

Sounds like a loooong weekend! Take your time, because the last thing you want is to jack up the tails/headlamps, they are damn exspensive!!!

I saw some dude with a Mirage spray his tails with some kind of JDM smoke aresol can, and it came out real good!!! The can was like $20.

I took off the tails just the other weekend, and it takes all of about 5min! After you remove the two screws, just pull them straight off. It feels like they will break, but don't worry.

well looks like this isnt going to happen... im pissed lol...

i got the silverstar headlights and foglights... i looked everywhere for the winshield tinting spray and couldnt find it. i went to walmart, pep boys, autozone, home depot and kmart. NOTHING! i finally called up a shop in the fleamarket and they have it. im so tired now from looking everywhere so i will get that next weekend or later, along with the bondo and mesh.

im also not going thru with this this weekend because i cant find the front turning & rear turning signal bulbs. I think i have to order those off the internet. I want to do everything in one shot, not peice by peice. I also have to find the exact spray paint match for that plastic peice where the mesh is installed behind.. im guessing i have to get that through the dealership. I want to use the thunder grey paint b/c if i were to do black, with silver mesh, on a TG ralliart, it wont match.

atleast I got most of the stuff i need... i really wanted to do this today but looks like i gotta wait. ;(

by the way, i think someone miss inform you about headlights....u DO have to remove the bumper. i did an HID retro on my headlights a few months ago and the only way to remove the headlights were to remove the bumper. plus, be carefull that you don't melt any of your plastic pieace in ur headlights when u put it in the oven. good luck!
