First Oil Change
Just changed my oil for the first time yesterday (at exactly 3000 miles
). I put in Mobil 1 5-W30 Full synthetic. In the professional opinions of the posters on this board
how long can I go before changing the oil again. Also, the filter I picked up at Advance Auto (Fram TG7317, i think) had a differant out diameter than the on from the factory. I havent noticed any leaks yet but is this normal?
P.S.: If you go to Advance to pick up any parts, they don't register the Ralliart (they only have the 2.0l). To get proper parts for your engine they have to use the Sportback, just an FYI.

It's just the outer rim that is a different. The seal and threads line up and that is what counts. What's freaky to me is how tiny the filter is.
With synthetic you should be able to crank out an extra couple thousand miles.

I laughed when I first saw the stock filter that came on my car. Then I got mad at it, because it was on WAY tight, and my filter wrenches were too big. I ended up using a chain wrench to get the original filter off.I use a bigger filter. When I was using the Mobil1 filters, I got the M1-110. The M1-105 would fit, too, and is larger yet. That's the one I used to put on my GSX.
Now I have a Purolator Pure-One filter on that's about the same size as the M1-105, but a couple bucks cheaper.
The plus to using a slightly larger filter is then you can just dump 5 quarts in, instead of 4.6.

Is that the filter that is right by the passenger side wheel well? I have free maintenance so I haven't changed it yet but holy crap that is easy to get to... on my ES you had to fish your hand up around the back of the engine...

well i have 25,000 miles on my gm 4.3 262cu. in. since my last oil change (im lazy, real real lazy) and i run syn. oil (never do this i am a trained professional) but the viscosity breaks down faster in a turbo engine, you may be able to 2-3k over 3k but its not recomended just do it every 3k your, engine will last longer
