Sun Roof

Seriously having regrets not getting the sun package on my 06 Lancer RA and was wondering if anyone knows anything about aftermarket sun roofs or moon roofs what ever you call it. I asked the dealer about it but they were pretty shady and just said its not the way to go due to the ammount of problems that usually occur in aftermarket sunroofs. Is this a fallacy? does anyone have one installed and can vouch one way or the other? Thanks!

Had a buddy who had a 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, he paid $1200 for a custom sunroof to be installed into his car, about a year and a half later, the sunroof was leaking and there was some bubbling around the hole they cut for it. Theoretically it can be done correctly, but it is by no means easy. Avoid it if you can.

not worth the money IMO... the money you spend on getting one installed.. then a couple years down the line it starts rusting/leakin and you gotta get it fixed... unless you can find someone crazy enough to do a perfect one it'll be tough to get a good job that isn't gonna cost you down the line...

You seem to have a whole lot of regrets on your RA.

What's the allure of the sunroof? I didn't get it, and I'm happy (avoided extra weight and gives me more headroom). Even folks with the OEM one have been having problems with it getting stuck after a couple of years etc.

Thumbs up Shop Around

I know that I always hear stories on how horrible aftermarket sunroofs are but just do a search. Im currently buying a EVO IX and absolutely hate leather but cannot live without a sunroof(weird combo) , but where I live there is a great guy that does sunroofs, 3 differenty types, and all come with a lifetime warranty, on leaks, rust, and bubbling. Dealer said he does excellent jobs and it only costs around $1300. Best of luck, and hope all goes well.

I happend to have a very dif experience then all of you. I wanted a yellow RA with sun an sound with a manual but i couldnt find one anywhere. So the dealer gave me a stock one an had sunroof cut in it for around 1000. Ive had my car for about 2 years an it hasnt rusted or leaked one bit.

Cut a hole in the roof that the manufacturer didn't put there.....and it might leak.
I ran a detail/accessory shop for about a year that installed sunroofs, and that was the one thing I hated to sell someone. I would tell them all the bad things to try to have them reconsider.

It's really nice to drive around and get fresh air/sun in the car without having the windows down, its a lot quieter than having the windows down too. I haven't had any headroom issues. I didn't think there was much appeal to a sunroof until I owned a car with one, I personally feel like its one of those things I'll likely insist on any future car I own.
