Larger Oil Filter Question.
Hello there,
From my understanding you can use the Mobil1 M1-110 instead of the M1-108 (I think that's the right number) so you add 5 quarts instead of 4.5ish when changing the oil.
I was at Kragen Autoparts today and I was looking for alternatives to the Mobil1 filter (it's pricey). I was going to go for the Bosch 3323 but I wasn't sure if it would fit.
Are there any alternative oil filters that are larger than a stock filter so I can pour in 5 quarts?
I tried searching but all I could find was about the M1-110 filter.
Thanks!

I just get the one for a '94 (although any year would probably work fine) Mitsu 3000GT.
I've been using Purolator Pure-one filters since I got sick of overpaying for the M1-105 that I used to use.

put in 5 qts...you don't need a bigger filter..been doing it to all 4 of my cars for yrs..got 140k on one of them too...it just .5 qt more than the little book says...geesh..that's a whole coffee cup...you'll burn it up in 20 min
Back to the original question.
The Mobil 1 M1-110 fits fine. Amsoil makes one now, the EAO46. IMHO the best there is and is also a larger filter.
The whole idea of a bigger filter is to hold more dirt before losing efficiency (bypassing if you don't change it soon enough), the bonus of a little more oil helps (can help) keep oil temperature more stable ie; a larger heatsink.

Don't you know you don't check the oil right when you turn off the engine?
Read this, or find "too much oil" in this write up: http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html
Too much oil puts a strain on the crank and the rear main seal. But it's your engine....do what you want. Personally, I don't want mine to eventually leak.
Never thought about using a bigger filter though. I just use the correct size PureOne....never had problems with them, and Blackstone seems to think that they work well (judging by my last oil analysis).

I went with the bigger filter more because I got sick of having bottles with .4 quart in them laying around after each oil change. Gotta buy 5, might as well be able to pour all 5 in.
Waiting for my Blackstone analysis. I pulled a sample last weekend when I changed my oil.

The AMSOIL EA Series is the best you can buy... BUT..... If you run the car hard frequently or track it, I recommend the WIX 57092 or NAPA GOLD 7092..
That is also AMSOIL Recommendation... I sell the WIX for $4.50
I do not recommend running the oil overfilled and you should check your oil Cold for the most accurate reading.
