Accelerate - Whiste Sound - Problem? Help

Hi guys,

My 2006 Ralliart Lancer has been sitting outside on the grass for about 1.5 weeks. I regulary start from time to time and let it idle.

Anyway, went to the shops today to pick up some working gloves and I accelarted quicker to get the car up and moving and noticed there was no throttle response.

This is exactly what happened.

I hit the accelator, and when I reach exactly mivec 3500rpm I hear the whistle sound/whiny sound almost like a kettle like as if some tube has a hole in it.

My foot is all the way down and the car is moving very slow. And the high pitch whistle sound gets louder but I always pull off at 4000-4500rpm.

Any idea?

The car was working PERFECTLY fine before this, and now all of a sudden the car has decided to stay put.

Modifications that might help:
CAI, Headers, Exhaust, Pulley, Cams, ECU, Torque Damper, Shifter.

Update:

Cleaned the MAF sensor as I thought this could be the problem.

Went for a test drive.

I'm pretty sure its the MAF sensor or ECU. Everytime I hit the gas, the power cuts out at 3500rpm. And delivers 60kw (so to speak).

Everytime I hit mivec, the whistle sound comes on and the power is restricted. I think there may be something wrong with the MAF sensor and the ECU is in safe mode.

Probably have to get it checked.

Anyone else have similar issues?

No its not the CAI, power cuts out at 3500rpm. Probably in safe mode.

Update:

- Cleaned the MAF sensor - Still have the problem.
- Reset the ECU - Still have the problem.
- All fluids are tubes are all double checked and everything seems fine.

*Summary:
- Ecu could be in safe-mode
- o2 sensors
- WOT is non-existent.
- Fuel cut at 3500rpm.

Pretty similar to otters thread which can be found here:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...light=fuel+cut

The only hesitation I'm getting is that power is being restricted/cut off just before 3500rpm onwards.

Hopefully the problem won't return. If it does, I'll have to replace the sensor, which costs about $160
Where can I find this plug? Could solve my problems!

CEL? ECU won't be in safe mode without a CEL, and you wouldn't even be able to accelerate beyond 3k, anyways.

That sensor I was talking about is the thing with the spring behind the passenger headlight.

Also, check for a restricted intake or exhaust. For all we know, some crazy aussie animal could've built a nest around your CAI filter or up in your exhaust while it was sitting. Also inspect exposed wires around the car, something might've chewed through something.

'was thinking the same thing....animals find where to crawl to when the car is on the grass.

Also, double check the conections to your CAI, and theres no a hole in it AFTER the MAF sensor.

Also, check the wiring for the O2 sensors, rats and badgers are a *****

If not, the sensor u just found out about is shot. It'sa common problem

Thing is, that sensor wouldn't go without a CEL. The slightest hiccup in its signal will trigger one.

CEL is on, but then again, it's always been on due to the extractors.

Yeah true, it was parked on the grass, and I bet some fuggen animal ate something or is inside somewhere. I'm going to shoot the fug out the animal. But then again, I'm WOT'ing the car.

I'll check my filter seeing that it was raining all week and it was outside on the grass, the moist could have caused something or something to crawl inside. Who knows.

I've checked for exposed wires, no luck there.

I'm guessing theres something inside my intake as it is closest to the ground.

I'm going military style on my car this coming week.

BEWARE

Okay update.

- Start the car and idle is rough. It keeps floating around 500-600rpm.
- Due to the rough idle, the exhaust/engine sound more raspy, rough, throaty.
- On idle, the car seems like its going to cut out because the revs are so low...then it revives in the last second.
- On idle, I'll rev the car and let go of the accelerator and the car literally almost dies out but revives like in the last second.
- Rev the car out slowly in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear and at exactly 4000rpm now, it flutters, power cuts, fuel cut, as if the engine cuts out and won't produce any more power. A thudering, flutter sound ...
- At night, with the lights on, due to the low idle, lights dim then when the rev goes back up the lights go up with it.

I'll check the CAI Filter tomorrow.

- Cleaned the MAF sensor.
- Checked all wires, tubes etc.
- Haven't checked the CAI Filter.

Any ideas?

Going to mechanic tomorrow.

If you have a CEL, pull the code, don't assume it's just there for being catless. It's going to save you a whole lot of guesswork, and takes 15 seconds. It should be the first thing you do anytime you have a engine related car issue.

its your CAI.
this happened to me for the first hour or so when i first installed my CAI.
my car even stalled completely a few times.
then the car got used to the extra air flow and ECU fixed itself.
do you have a piggy ECU?
you might have to get your ECU reflashed.

I'll go and pull the code at a mechanic.

I have a piggy.

Can't get it reflashed.

I'm pretty sure its the filter otter was speaking about. Something could be blocking it.
