Brake Painting and new Rotors/Pads

First a whole lot of scrubbing and cleaning -- I don't even like to think about it.
Then old pistons and boots removed. Properly prepped calipers and torque brackets are brush painted with POR-15 for maximum durability:

Within the POR-15 recoat window, calipers and brackets are masked and sprayed with VHT Caliper Red and Clear, then baked in the oven per VHT instructions (much better if wife is not home). Then new pistons, boots and snap rings installed:

Finished product with EBC RedStuff pads and EBC USR Blackdash rotors, and guidepins cleaned and re-greased:

Installed and system flushed with Motive Power Bleeder and Valvoline synthetic DOT 3/4. Front brakes:

Rear brakes:

Awesome work, appreciate the details and your pics. Let us know how the new setup compares in performance to OEM brakes.

p.s. what is POR-15?

Thanks, appreciate the comments.

RedStuff pads are low-dust, high-performance street brakes (not track). For spirited street driving they are great; quick intial bite and very graduated pedal. Easy to clean.

USR black-dash rotors give the slotted appearance and shave the pads evenly with less air noise (and cost less) than full slotted, drilled rotors.

I have RedStuff and USRs on Mitsu and VW sport compacts and RedStuff on my wife's turbo, all-wheel-drive cute-ute. Big improvement over stock for hard driving. (ps, there's a lotta good brakes out there; Hawk etc, don't care about or involved with EBC, just suit our driving well).

This is the fourth set of brakes I've done with POR-15 base and VHT color. You can read all about POR-15 for yourself, but I'll just say this; it's super hard coating, but man you gotta follow the directions exactly -- no mineral spirits, only water based cleaners -- do a test panel -- and stay within the recoat window for color coat.

Here's the brakes on my wife's RDX, newly done with POR-15/VHT Gold:

and after 18 months/18k miles:

nice nice bro, im prob getting the same set up rotor and pad wise, but i got the calipers off a 2nd Gen GSX (2 piston caliper) just waiting to be slapped on. also have to order a set of SS lines all the way around. should be a nice upgrade on the braking. good job on your setup

I miss my Gen 1 DSM....

Do the Eclipse calipers bolt right up?

I have a 3000GT parts car sitting around with brand new brakes (teen driver + phone pole ). I'm gonna check if the front 2 piston calipers are the same as the DSM. They might bolt up to the Ralliart.

thats such a nice job! I wish I was able to take my brakes out, but I was only able to paint them while they were still on.. I don't have the necessary skill to take them off, haha
