Thumbs down weird sound :S

hey i normally don't drive hard unless i'm at the track, but yesterday i was in a hurry to get somewhere and i noticed a yucky sound just before the rev limit, i tried to get a video, but the sound on my phone is crappy so you can't really hear it, but if i were to spell the sound, it would be like "rrrrak kak kak" sounds like firecrackers...no noticeable power loss, no other problems throughout the band what so ever, just gets quite loud around the rev limit, first gear you can really notice it if you listen close...never did it before...it was probably the first time i redlined it since probably october when i raced...sounds like backfire but only happens past 6500rpm...anything i should inspect?

it sounds like once you get past 6500 rpms the engine just stops getting gas for a second or two. hmmmm

I'm not really hearing anything out of the ordinary, I hope you did this on a closed road or at a track Try some 93 octane se if it's still there...

k, i filled up with 93 last night, and topped up the oil which was sitting just below the first hole on the stick, which is weird cause i had my oil changed less than 5k kilometers ago...it still has the yellowish color so it's not old or burnt, i use AMS oil synthetic, are these cars oil pigs or what cause i would not have expected the oil level to drop that quick, i checked for leaks and couldn't see anything...

anyways the sound is gone, i'll update if it comes back...i'm due for a tune up this spring, so hopefully i can forget about it...

maybe the shop that did the oil change did it incorrectly...if thats even possible lol.
I have no issues with my car burning oil. in fact, since i bought it, i never had to fill it up between oil changes.

i was going to actually suggest low oil. happened to me and it makes your car sound bad at higher rpm and mivec will go on and off due to lack of pressure

i just rolled over the 160,000 mark last week, but 500-700km per weekend adds up fast :S i have a tensioner pulley squeal but it's minor chirping...i'll get around to it...idle sounds kinda lame, like hungry baby birds...can't really hear it when i'm driving...

the cherry bomb "turbo" is not bad, go it from NAPPA when i asked "what is your cheapest performance muffler, that doesn't sound retarded?" the tip was more expensive, but it sounds great...the intake adds that mean growl when MIVEC kicks in...

as far as the oil change i get it done at this drive thru place by my house cause they give military discounts, and i'm lazy....they also do free top ups between changes if for whatever reason it's low before you're due for another change, but i was out of town when i noticed it...and i wasn't about to drive 300km with my car making a noise like that...so they must not have filled it enough...

that would explain the "sputtering" sound

where in ontario are u located? i dont think there's any places around me that will give free tops ups...lmao i've had my oil changed every 5000K and always at a mitsu dealership. i think it's almost time to have a lash adjustment done too. have you had yours done?

i live in trenton, but i'm on course in CFB borden...the great canadian oil change does free top ups, there's one here in trenton...you sit in your car and they give you free coffee and popcorn while they do it, LOL! it's great...

when the weather gets nicer (my garage has no heat/insulation) i'm going to do a tune up, i have not yet adjusted valves, though my valves aren't noisy i may give it a go anyways, spark plugs need changing they are almost a year old, haven't flushed the coolant since like august, and my ABS light just came on last week, so hopefully there's enough pad to last a month without destroying my rotors...i have quite a bit of maintenance to do next month-ish...i need struts and tires too...FFS

also my 03 lancer ES needs work too...two cars is worse than one

Ah I figured that might be what it is.... when I start the car and its cold out, I get an annoying chirp, squeak sound from the engine, passenger side.
Its annoying... makes it sound old.
