Timing belt damaged engine?

I have a 2006 lancer ralliart manual transmission that has 124000k, timing belt snapped and I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen? Did it damage your engine? Don't know if I'm going to have to send out my engine to have it rebuilt? Some things online do say it is Zero tolerance, but others do say theirs went so I'm unsure if I should even bother spending the weekend replacing the belt or just start looking for a new engine? Let me know!

If it has a 4G63 you are screwed. Any other motor I don't know.

4G69 is an interference engine like the 4G63,it's hit or miss...my timing belt went, and there was no valve damage. I pulled the head, sent it to the shop to have a valve job done (seated and lapped) and had the head decked...ran me about $280, and all I did was de-bur the dents in the pistons with a common screwdriver, put it all back together, turbocharged it, ran 12psi and she's still alive today, that was 90,000km ago...

most times the valves get bent, I got lucky...you COULD replace the belt and check compression, but if you feel that would be a waste of time, then you could go ahead and pull the head. aside from the timing kit, you'll need a new head gasket, and potentially new head bolts...

Oh gees!
Looks more like your engine ingested an Alien facehugger and it melted your piston.

holy ****! what rpm? and how much boost? definitely looks like there was detonation involved...

I have seen that happen before, but at low rpm, low load there's normally not that kind of damage...

Yeah it is a 4g69 engine. Were gunna put the timing belt on and see how she runs. If it's running like **** we will send the head out, if it runs smooth then hopefully were golden.

Sorry for the late response but it was on a bone stock 99 Eclipse GSX just cruising down the highway at 65mph with no boost in 5th gear. NO detonation. Just a snapped belt. Never even heard the damage but the stock stereo was blasting.

wow, that's impressive...lol...mine went downshifting from 5 to 4 at around 80kph, and I had almost zero damage...I wonder if having only one cam makes a difference...

Mine broke doing around 40mph, then tried starting it a couple times after it died. Opened up the valve cover and it's got at least two bent valves. Still deciding what I'm going to do. Anyone know of a good used head for sale?
Car might be parted out or sold for cheap otherwise.

can you take a picture of the valve stems of the bent valves for our records? Lash measurement would be useful as well.

Here's a few pics to the head and other pistons

(sorry my camera doesn't take the best shots close up)

2 valves broke off and punched a hole though the piston.

Hard to see but the cylinder walls are pitted from the broken valves.

Chunks of metal I found in my turbo. Much more inside.
