I'm going drag racing tonight

Last time I went to the track I ran a 15.8. At the time I was needing my 30k maintainance and my stock tires were going bald (Bridgstone POS). I now have my maintanance done and I put BFGoodrich G-Force sport tires on it. We will se how much tires really help!

cool, let us know the results guys!!!!!

Currently 15ºF, feels like 10ºF with the wind chill. The dragstrip near my house has finished it's official 2005 schedule, but hasn't closed for the winter yet. I'm sure the turbo/AWD guys around here are loving it. :D

I'm back. The tires helped! keep in mind that I'm just not that good of a driver but I knocked off 3 one-hundreths of a second. my 60 was 2.4 again {thumbdwn} but my trap was at 88 mph {thumbup} and my reaction time is better too {thumbup} Wadad ran too and he did good but I'll let him post it.

Thanks

I had a great time. Thanks for PMing me LRH. I went to test out my new motor mounts and new clutch. I maybe should have waited a few more miles for the clutch as we could smell it after the 1st of 3 runs but I ran a best of 16.499 @ 83.72mph. I almost had my best 60 ever on that run with a 2.350.

On another note...I just got back and in the mail box were my RPW phenolic gaskets. I can port my manifold for the swap and should have a little extra for you NEXT TIME!!! {thumbup}

As long as you and KillahB stay stock I have something to shoot for

Oh and to anyone looking to get motor mounts they definitely help. The car just dug in and pulled. I never even sniffed missing a shift. This on an OZ though.

so you only knocked off 3 1-hundredths? that means you still ran a 15.8? how did the tires help?

WADADLIG_OZ Dec 3, 2005 01:49 PM

It's only my opinion but I think he hardly gave the tires time to break in. One day is not enough.

New tires come with a coating on them that takes several hundred miles to wear off.

Give it a few weeks and he'll get the bite he was looking for.

Yeah thats about right. It was just under 15.8. Well it was 15.79. Down from 15.82. I don't claim to be the best driver out there but I'm getting better at launching from the tree. I did manage a 0.03 reaction time but then my 60 sucked. Then the next time my reaction was a 0.7 and I got 2.4 on my 60. I just need practice launching. I can shift just fine and I never miss but I just can't get off the line like I want to. The guys that are running low 15's all have 2 sec 60's.

candycain Dec 3, 2005 08:40 PM

you have to practice slipping the clutch. don't dump it. you want to do a quick slip that way you get most of the power to the ground but with minimal spin. i'm still working on my launches too but i'm also still on the stock goodyear rs-a's. i cut a 2.4 60ft. on an unprepped track with no wheelspin a bit of wheel hop when i approached about 5000rpms.

lrh35 Dec 3, 2005 08:50 PM

Whats the best way to let out the clutch so that you don't burn it up or don't get too much wheel spin?

Don't worry too much about your reaction time. The 1/4 mile clock doesn't start until you start moving. You could sit there for 15 seconds, and then make a 15 second pass, and it would still show that your 1/4 mile time was 15 seconds. Work on your launch and your shifting. Everything else will come by itself if you can consistently get good launches and good shifts.

lrh35 Dec 4, 2005 06:52 AM

I know the time doesn't go untill I go and my shifting is perfect. I have never missed a shift and I can move the stick petty damn fast. The problem is all in the launch. I'm a little scared of burning my clutch if I fether it too much and if I dump it I get too much wheel spin. I just need to find an empty parking lot where I find the happy medium.

WADADLIG_OZ Dec 4, 2005 08:22 AM

Don't let what happened to me scare you.

On my stock clutch I never had the problem we encountered that night. I used to launch it feathering the clutch until I got moving and then dump it. You had to atleast get the wheels moving a bit before you could completely engage the clutch.

I may not have completely broken in the new clutch to take on the rigors of the strip. That plus the motor mounts I think made it harder to try the slip approach.

Anyway.

Keep plugging

You'll get it.
