Exhaust Size. 2.25" or 2.5"? Pictures up!
Hey guys,
So I decided to get a custom catback exhaust. My question is, what size exhaust should I get? 2.25 or 2.5"? Also, Lukey or Magnaflow exhaust? Cheers |
im usin a custom 2.5 works great flows nice. no need to go any bigger unless u got turbo but then even still.
|
Yeah, only want to go 2.5" max..
|
What size piping should I get?
|
for our cars turbo or not 2.5 MAX
|
I went with 2.25" on mine because I have an auto and wanted the extra low end torque that a 2.25" provides over the 2.5". The 2.5" gives better top end though.
|
I have a 2.5" which is really overkill for the RRM Dp as that looks to be 2.25" OD.
In the upper revs say 4k plus I could tell a difference over stock. The slowness in 3rd gear and 4th gear in these upper ranges seemed to benefit from the larger over stock. I went with Magnaflow and it was better than the Ebay muffler I had before although still not ideal in my opinion. I think running catless will get you an undesired affect to noise irregardless to what muffler/resonator you are using. |
This Saturday I get a 2.25 inch Cat back system which includes a Berklee straight through performance muffler. I have an auto and will keep the car N/A.

There was a good article in Compact Sport about the size of the pipe vs the housepower. Unless it is turbo, too large a pipe will hurt the performance.
|
i would go with the 2.5 and 3" if your going turbo
|
3" is perfectly fine on an NA motor so long as it has a large displacement. Ralliart models have a 2.4L motor correct? I know on 240sx's with our 2.4L four bangers, we make more power and torque across the board with 3" exhausts. That whole 2.5" max diameter piping on NA 4 bangers does not apply to large displacement 4 cylinder motors.
What works on a 1.6L and 1.8L honda motor doesn't apply to 2.4L motors. |
The shop recommends 2" exhaust, otherwise I'll lose alot of low end torque. They said "Do you want top end performance or driveability?"
Top end 2.25" - 2.5" Driveability 2.0" - low-mid-high Do you think I should go 2 or 2.25? I won't go 2.5 or larger.. |
2.5" is as large as you should go. It will also make great power when you turbo too, or add more mods.
Stock is 2" so I think that is silly. 2.25" is a great size as there is already lots of premade parts in this size from Magnaflow. Although I prefer the 2.5" if you are going custom. I mean really there are Lancer 2.0 guys with a 2.5" system with no adverse affects. The Ralliart will suck it up and blow it out either way! |

2.25 has been the best compromise. ROAD/RACE:apimp: |
