Just looking for some info for a buddy's 05 RA

This is lancer_evo_06's friend, I'm helping him tune his car this summer and i'm trying to get some info about RA's. I'm used to building old school honda sohcs and even older turbo dsm's(conquest/starion), so i just need help on model specific stuff.

First off he already has the RRM CBE. Next thing we're looking into is tires(more as a need than upgrade), but we've got that covered, but still open to suggestions.

For the money, the next thing he is thinking about is the CAI. Anyone know how well this compares to the SRI for power gains? Also, after reading on here for a while, i'm going to reccomend the UDP from RRM.

Next, he's looking for some decent power w/o sacrificing too much mpg, so i'm wondering how much mpg does the piggy back ecu take away(if any)?

I've suggested for the money of the piggy back, plus a little more, he could spray a small nitrous shot, like the ZEX kits that open at WOT, maybe a 50 shot. How well do the 4G69's respons to spray? I've had good results with these on stock blocks in our honda 1.6 sohc motors. This way, it wouldn't effect mpg when not using it.

Any other suggestions are welcomed, just looking to keep it relatively low cost and still very drivable everyday. Thanks.

-From what alot of people have been saying is that the sri and cai get the same amount of gains because the sri does not have a heatsheild. I noticed you were in Louisiana also and im not sure how bad it is down there but if you get high waters often I would stick to the sri.

-I think the Piggy would actually help and you could probly tune it to get better mpg..

-I myself would not waste my time with nitrous and spend more of the money towards maybe a custom turbo set up or a kit

Yea, water is a little bad here and there, i actually just told him that before you posted, so i think the sri will be the way to go.

As for the tuning, i'm beginning to learn to tune ecu's but i wouldn't mess with his b/c its not what i'm used to. Not saying he won't run the thing, almost 30 whp from that, axle-back, and a CAI ain't bad at all.

The reason i reccomended nitrous is b/c he isn't looking to turbo the car for a while, if ever.

How well does the 4G69 respond to the header and dp from RRM?

Blitz19 Jun 5, 2007 01:30 PM

the cars feels way better with header and DP... the engine responds well to spray try doing a wet shot and try adding fuel from the fuel rail(not the lines) or installing a another fuel pump just for the system...and UDP is a most before header or DP

RRM SRI, UDP, Header, and Piggy would be a nice package. Unless you want to turn....then look into the RRM rear sway bar and perches.
Some guys on here that spray can elaborate a little more about Nitrous.

Welcome to the boards.

So, like i said on his name, my buddy(lancer_evo_06) needs some tires too. What about the Toyo Proxxes that they sell on the RRM site? He's looking for something sticky but with a good tread wear and price. And yes he is mostly interested in getting straightline speed for right now

Proxes are a good all around tire. Others to consider are: BFGoodrich KDW's, Falken Ziex 512's. There are several choices in the 205/50/16 stock size.
