Quick question - RPM's
 

Simple question for you guys... Is 3100 RPMs normal at 65 mph? I have a 5 speed.

I recently got a job about 40 min away that requires me to drive on the highway the majority of the time and I feel like I'm getting worse gas mileage than I should for this car. Tires have been rotated and filled.

I don't know about 65, but 3500 is right at 72 or 73mph. 3100 sounds about right. stay below the mivec, that's the only thing you can do. you should have bought an ES.

It will be sweet to find a better 5th gear upgrade to lower even more the rpms... has anyone check that"?

there have been posts about it, but I believe the transmission itself is pretty much a mix of old and new parts/vehicles. It would be pretty difficult to find out unless you had the thing taken apart in front of you.

well the redlines are fast so can't really talk smack on those.. unless your up to par. But I cruise on the highway at 60mph to stay under 3k and out of mivec to save gas. Also when your driving around town shift at low rpm's like under 2,500

and hellview you need to update your sig.

Stay off 3500 +, learn some throttle finesse, drive with windows up if you dont used your A/C, if you use it, recirculate from time to time, try driving with lights off/ low stereo

Theres a bunch of approaches to get some extra MPG

shift at 2000rpm!!!(except 1st).....its a hassle but it works :D

on the other hand i would kill for a 6th gear.....

how about the 1st to 3rd to 5th technique?

If I'm on a flat or downhill surface I usually start in 2nd, its very smooth... and either go from there to 3rd to 5th or just 2nd to 5th.
