Neeed help asap!!

:helpme: HELP!!! hey guys i've been driving my 04 ralliart sportback and now all of a sudden i'm getting a crazy loud metal on metal contact sound from my front end, its scary as hell and im afraid to drive my car incase sumthing fails, has anybody else had this problem? if so can u tell me for sanity reasons?! again its coming from the front , front right to be more specific.and its happens when ever i go over bumps and turn left AND right but not so much when i turn right.

Well it "sounds" suspension related. Maybe one of the front swaybar brackets broke, I've heard of that but it could also be any number of things. You need to get under the car and inspect it.

is it like a rattle? could be a heat shield on the exhaust...or if it's a loud clank, you could have a loose caliper, or suspension component like lanzer said...

not so much a rattle bu,t a loud clanking. today after skool i will jack the car up inspect it, my buddies gonna b giving rides baack and forth for now until i find out the problem.

my guess is a loose caliper...but let us know what you find...

Have you isolated or picked up on whether the sound is coming from the bottom or top end of the suspension?

Suspension noises do have the ability to "travel", but if you can pinpoint if the sound is from the top or bottom then we could start narrowing things down.

If it's from the bottom I'd say a loose caliper also, but if near the top I might guess a bad strut mount or even a busted/unseated spring

Got a vid? haha..

One of the exhaust shields needs clamping.

well i check out my front end and it seems my cailper and rotor were moving around and had alot of play.well that was all i could see from what i know.

CrAnSwIcK Mar 16, 2012 11:27 AM

rotor can be loose with the wheel off, caliper should NEVER BE LOOSE! was i right again? :p

Raikiri Mar 16, 2012 11:28 AM

seems like it could be a wheel bearing, broken endlinks, tie rods.... yeah who knows take it off and find out

Myszkewicz Mar 18, 2012 05:24 AM

I'm gonna guess broken sway bar end link. Had it happen to me.

caliper can wiggle a bit, look "loose", as it slides on the two guide pins - this is normal

yeah i know, but i meant like, actually loose, i must have misunderstood his/her response...this happened to me and it made a very loud clanking sound even on the slightest of bump or wave in the road...
