thinking about hid's
 

i know theres a few people here that have gotten hid's for their RA's...
i even seem to remember a thread of somebody basically asking what im about to ask but i can't seem to find it..(and i think i may have told them to just get hid fogs kuzz they're cheaper, and u can still upgrade to HID lights later)

i am one of those people that are very picky about being able to see out of the windows/windshield...(or maybe my wife just doesnt actually care about seeing.,...her windows are always all fogged over or hazed or snowy or icy or her lights aren't on, and it just gets on my nerves and i turn on her defogger, or wipers, or lights, or all 3...then she yells at me)

i recently got some $ and im considering getting some projector lights w/ HID's...ive noticed lately i get annoyed at my headlights not being bright enough(in my opinion, at least) and i remember before i had "better/brighter" bulbs in but they burned out too quickly, and really wasnt much better visibility...honestly in think it was acually just diferent colored light

how much better if any are the HID's compared to stock lights...(even w "better/brighter" bulbs)?
can any1 post up pics of their cars with HID so I can see if they're worth it...or tell if/how much better it is over stock from before to after getting HID's?

HID with 6000k bulbs is the closest to natural light you can get. its much more crisp and clear, and the white hue makes visibility far superior to that over the yellowish(or even the white silverstar) look that halogens give. DDM Tuning has slim ballast kits for $45-$55 with lifetime warranties. Simple plug-n-play upgrade.

After having so many people with HID's in my rear view, don't do it. They are annoying as heck to other drivers on the road. The stock lights with fogs on gives more than ample light, then we have our high beams. If anything, I might get some silverstars for the winter only. Just my 2 cents.

One thing you might consider about winter driving with aftermarket HID's is sometimes the kits are TOO bright (or do not seat properly, or both, bright bulb not 'focused' properly), combine this with shadow play generated from the brighter lamps with uneven road surfaces and plow ice etc. - it can really mess with you if you're not paying attention.

If you're in a rather snowy area I've always found most headlights are seemingly brighter when lighting up the road anyways because the snow 'reflects' light off the ground a lot easier.

I personally cannot stand seeing HID's in a halogen reflector housing, and would not recommend it if you were using the stock headlights. A stock reflector/HID combo will be more dangerous to other motorists in the winter, that combo always seems to be way more harsh on the receiving end when snow is laying around.

(Plus it's annoying as s*** when your rear window is fogged and lit up entirely like a blue neon cause some a**hole in a truck thought HID's in his reflectors were a good idea... *grumble grumble grumble, rabble rabble rabble*)

I have H7 HID's in my Depo projectors and I say they do effectively help with lighting the road up at night, the projector themselves help focus the light and I can see quite a ways up in the distance. Occasionally I do get flashed (can recall maybe only 3 times in the past couple of years) but that normally happens when I hit a bump and the front of my vehicle is momentarily lifted, spraying oncoming traffic with a quick bright burst of blinding light.

It's entirely up to you, I've never really had any issues but as I said, the shadow play can sometimes really dog you.

i was thinking of getting a set of "already HID" projector light housings form ebay or sumn...
i had a set of 9007 silverstar ultra bulbs and it didnit do much in my opinion, just changed the light color....plus they burned out after like 10 month....i also had a set of ebay 9007 blue "5000k bulbs" and they lasted about 4 months before they both simultaneously burned out...i know quite well HID's+oe lamps=dumb and blinding

i know sometimes the HID are annoyingly bright in your rearview and for oncoming drivers sometimes, but honestly thats just for the minutes or seconds i'd be coming or going by somebody...plus im sure the RA is low enough it wont be blasting at any mirrors at a stoplight like trucks do...

Not an issue if the proper (legal) housings are used. The cut-off on most projectors don't allow the light to be blinding. I have a set of projectors that I got from Eagle Motorsports (EBay) and I am using ballasts and bulbs that I managed to buy used. A whole box, about 9 ballasts and 12 bulbs, some worked some didn't. Currently, I have been running the same units for about 6 months without issues.{thumbup}

^^wouold you say they're significantly brighter than oe light/housings or about the same just more intense, do you get a better field of vision, or better distance to see..?

how would you describe it...is it worth it if i want more light/farther distance?

as i said..im thinking of a set hid units from ebay most likely...(projectors with hid already installed...plug n play)
