Today's mod plan
 

I really want good bang for the buck out of any mods I do and since there aren't too many yet for the Sportback RA I've decided on the following.

A SRI doesn't seem to do very much compared to a CAI so I'll run the stock air filter until 6,000 miles. If there's a good CAI for automatic trans cars I'll put it in. If there's no CAI then I'll put a K&N filter in and gain maybe 3-4 hp. I'll run that until a CAI is available.

Around 12,000 I'll find a local shop and have a mandrel bent 2.5" cat back exhaust made.

Around 18,000 CD changers and other sound system upgrades.

Around 24,000 a set of 225/45-16's either on the stock wheels or a new set of 17" wheels, whatever the budget allows.

Other than that I don't know what I'll do, and any of that may change after I eat and sleep again or someone brings to market a good product I want.

sounds like a good plan.. i couldn't wait that long to get my exhaust or especially my sound system in there though :lol:

Well, it's partially dictated by expected financial availability. If it turns out that around 6k I can only get the K&N for about $65 instead of a CAI around $200 then I may update the timetable somewhat.

At least your doin' what you can afford and being reasonable. I know alot of people w/ the "mod bug" that strap themselves pretty tight b/c of it.

Yeah, I think quite a few of the Evo's we see for sale are because the owners got over their head with payments, insurance, maintenance, fuel etc. and have to sell. I'm fortunate in that my car is paid for but the university my daughter goes to keeps sending me these regular greetings so the car has to be done in small bits at wide intervals.

I'm very proud of your self restraint. I must say having the EVO is great and I have seen many EVO owners that cannot afford their car after they get wheels and exhaust, and everything else. The EVO is crazy right off the showroom floor.

I have a similar plan for my EVO, execept it follows a different guideline...

Now until 36k miles...
1. System
2. Warranty safe mods, catback, CAI, gauges
3. Affordable appearence mods

36k miles until paid off...should have my better job by then!
1. A few more perfomance mods, possibly convert to Turboback exhaust, SAFC, better FMIC and a few others maybe
2. A few more appearence mods, maybe a kit or something

If 60k service comes before paid off...
1. Kevlar timing belt
2. HKS 272 Cams
3. Ligthened pulleys
4. Anything else that makes sense when doing the timing belt

After getting paid off....
1. Who knows?!? Get crazy with it.



My girlfriend has a Raliart and I'm sure she will follow a plan, although her mods probably will not be as extensive.
