Horrible gas mileage on 06 ralliart?

Hey guys. New here. The other day I bought an 06 lancer ralliart. This is my first Mitsubishi so I'm not all that familiar with them. My last car was a mk4 jetta 1.8t which I loved and was really good on gas. Now yesterday I put 20$ In the tank and this would be my first time putting gas in ( the car was on empty when I bought it ) and I did what seemed like not a lot of driving around the city, just some arrands and things. It is now the next day and the car is on empty again, now to me this does not seem normal at all. It seemed to have went down wayy to fast. I drove a total of 121 km (75 miles or so) the car was at half a tank, now empty. Is this normal for these cars? Or should I be worried? What do you guys think? Any help is appreciated. Thank you

to deplete that quickly, i'd say you have a leak...now, the fault monitoring would pick that up, so unless the check engine light is burnt out, I would imagine it should be on if that's the case.

depends on how you drive, but that being said, 20$ in Ontario isn't half a tank, but even still I think you should be getting better mileage...

have you sscanned the ECU for DTC's?

Oxygen sensor(s) that don't work will cause noticably bad gas mileage. Are you throwing a code for this?

No check engine light. Haven't checked for codes as I don't have a scanner. Gonna try and use my buddies tho. Wouldn't the check engine light be on if there was a code tho?

not if it's burnt out, lol...how long have you had the car?

You can get ELM 327 or whatever Bluetooth obd2 adapters for like 15 bucks and torque app and log, scan, clear, monitor etc.

What's normal on these cars? I get exactly 21.1 miles per gallon and it seems kinda ****ty for a 4 cyl 5 spd. All the emissions systems are fine, the air filter is clean, the tires are properly inflated, and the primary o2 is brand new.

uh, that's not horrible...it's not a prius, and it depends a lot on how you are driving. and where you're driving...like is there a lot of hills, etc. is there traffic. yada yada..

it's a 2.4L which is a big inline 4, and the transmission is geared for acceleration, not fuel economy...a 2.0L lancer is much better on gas, but it's gutless and sounds like a sewing machine.

It just seems low. My twin turbo 535i is in the 30s on the highway and it's running 21 pounds of boost. Thanks for the info though. It's good to know that it's normal.

Well, you're not running 21 psi flat out or you'd be getting 5 miles to the gallon...you are getting 21 highway or average in the lancer? Should be a little better, but it's not horrible. But again the gearing has a lot to do with it..for example at 120km/h in 5th gear puts me over 3500rpm...

What engine is in you 535? Is it a 6 speed? Cause that makes a big difference on the highway...

21.5 is for mixed driving, mostly highway. My 535I is a 3.0 inline six with all the bolt ons running around 400hp at the wheels and the sport automatic 6 speed. It's actually kind of amazing that it gets such good mileage. When I run E85 and drive the piss out of it around the city, it drops to 13. Still, I'd expect better from the Lancer. The gearing is really short though.

I'm not saying it's running like a top, but 21mpg is roughly 11L/100km...which is what I average. It's a bit better on the highway...
