SST-equipped X successfully flashed to 330 bhp

Good news about the mod-ability of the SST (in the MR, at least) is here:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...&postcount=112
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...&postcount=125

This indicates to me that the SST-equipped RA can probably be taken up to at least 300 bhp if the other components don't prevent it. Plenty in my book. Another post in the same thread states that another company modded an SST-equipped X to 330 whp. But the source cited is in Japanese and I'm not interested enough to set up the translator. One thing to remember about any higher hp gains is that no one knows what effect they will have on long-term service life. That's why Ralliart UK is being cautious in increasing power on the FQ. And anyone doesn't have an extra $10K lying around to replace their prematurely-dead SST would be wise to be cautious also.

300bhp is like 250whp, so if they got 330W, they thats great.

Cars available right now (Canada):
  • 2009 Lancer (base) DE: 5-spd manual or CVT auto
  • 2009 Lancer (base) SE: 5-spd manual or CVT auto
  • 2009 Lancer (base) GT: 5-spd manual or CVT auto
  • 2009 Lancer (base) GTS: 5-spd manual or 6-spd Sportronic CVT auto
  • 2008 Lancer Evo X GSR: 5-spd manual only
Cars available any day now:
  • 2008 Lancer Evo X MR: 6-spd TC-SST auto/manual only
  • 2009 Lancer Ralliart: 6-spd TC-SST auto/manual only
[incidentally, what the hell is a "sportronic" CVT -- is it a continuously variable transmission or isn't it?!]

Any day now for the RA, that's a good one. The "sportronic" CVT emulates the feel of a geared transmission.

I think the sportronic CVT has the ability for the driver to feel like they are shifting by using preset ratios.

Lol, We still have 3 more months until the RA according to the douche nozzle of a salesman I spoke too. He was kind enough to tell me there's a waiting list for the RA too and I should get my deposit in ASAP. I kindly told him where he could stick his list.

Mitsubishi has stated that they believe that the SST is reliable up to 350 hp.

That's just a sales line -- wonder if knuckleheaded lines like the "waiting list" ever actually work on anybody who isn't a moron... as for 'available', I didn't mean on the lot, just that sometime soon I expect Mitsubishi Canada to actually take orders from dealers in some form. Then it will be three months (for us in Canada, your time may vary).

I'm fairly certain that my dealer here has a waiting list of one for the Ralliart -- me -- since early February... even they initially tried to tell me there was some sort of waiting list, for a car they hadn't even heard of until I told them about it! Real waiting lists are fine once you decide on a car, but they're useless if you want options beyond a single model (I don't, obviously), and they're even more useless if you're impatient.

Still curious -- how do you emulate the feel of gears with a CVT? -- some sort of artificial loading? I'm very glad they're not letting make-believe CVT gearing anywhere near the Ralliart (like it or hate it, the TC-SST is definitely a real geared transmission).

I meant that dealers would be able to order the Ralliart any day now (well, any month now), but I did go wrong with the wording, since the 2008 Evo X MR should be available on lots at about the same point that the 2009 Ralliart is available for ordering.

The CV pulleys adjust to specific gear ratios to simulate a gear, instead of smoothly/continuously adjusting themselves as they normally do. It's a rather pointless feature, since it's both slower and less efficient than letting the CVT do its thing.

The Evolution X MR is only going to have the TC-SST. The RA is only going to have the TC-SST for 09, and they might realese a M/T version in 2010. If you want a M/T right now you will have to settle with the GSR
