Ok guys I've always liked how the roof racks looked on civics and I love to ride bikes. So I convinced my wife to let me buy one for my ralliart and I gotta say I'm disappointed, I don't like how it looks. So I wanna know how many people out there feel the same way. By the way it's a Yakima bike rack

 

I plan on getting one the day my car arives. Are you using the connectors on the roof or in the door jam?
I've always used rockymounts bike racks in the past on my Thule or Yakima systems as they look cleaner, are easy to use, and come in different colors.

 

Door jam. I was planning on getting the highroller so I don't have to deal with taking the front tire off

 

Well if you don't like the way the rack it self looks you should check out Razorlab's car as he is using the roof mounts and it looks pretty good.

here is his post on his thread showing the rack and snowboard clamps.

 

Only the Sportback has the roof mounts. The sedan does not.

 

i work at a large distru for thule and yakima and have access to whatever i want, that said, the thule aero (silver) bars on WW look terrible. just a clash between the white and matte silver bars. the black square bars look better contrast-wise but its just uglier/not as streamline as the thule aero bars. i had the fairing on the thule rack and i felt it made the car look worse. so i took it off, looked slightly better, but whistles like a ****. i just keep the crossbars in my garage and use them as needed. the yakima system looks very similar to the thule square system but have yet to try it. ill give it a shot this weekend at work and do my best for a photo shoot. maybe ill install each option and post some photos... but in the mean time here is a photo with the aero with the fairing

 

It's a friggin' sports rack, not a fashion accessory. ALL racks make a car look horrible. Who cares what it looks like as long as it works and isn't a huge eye sore.

Then again, I don't have mine on year round with a fixie while attending HellaFlush parking lot meets sipping lattes with my cap on sideways.

 

i agree with OP, roof racks do look good on some cars, i dont feel the lancer is one of them- ive seen some which had that shield in front and it didnt look too bad but overally i dont like racks on lancers- id say get which ever one works the best for your needs.

 

Wrap some thin bungee cord in a spiral around the tubes. It breaks up the resonance that causes whistling.

 

I guess because I've only been interested in the sportback I did notice, thanks for the correction.

BTW, what type of clear vinyl did you put down to protect the paint from the rack mounts and where can you buy it?

 

I got some cheap clear vinyl off amazon. It's the size for the door jams that I just repurposed.

I call it cheap because it's not 100% clear, it has a slight yellow tint too it. I didn't really care since you can't really see it much.
