Upper pipe keeps blowing off under WOT
Upper pipe keeps blowing off under WOT
Hey guys, I had the InJen upper pipe installed and until yesterday everything was fine until i heard a whoosh while driving....
i pressed the gas and felt no boost so i assumed the pipe came loose or something.....checked it out tightened it and then drove again and at WOT it pops off again....idk why this is happening all of a sudden when its been fine the past month.
It started coming off at the I/C black pipe - upper pipe connection...so i tried tightening that and putting more of the UICP onto the black pipe but then it just blew off at the middle connection...
So after all that I reinstalled the fabric piping and so far it worked fine but i can see theres still movement and as of now the fabric pipe is double clamped.
Any ideas why this happened all of a sudden? My CEL has also come on now.
thanks for any help
and yes all the clamps are tight

Home Depot sells T-Bolts in your area???? The dang sure don't around here.
Maybe its just a simple fix like that, but im being pesimistic(not sure if i spelled that right) here, Could something possibly be blocking you intercooler up or!!!! possibly your bpv isnt opening up, causing almost like a surge and blowing off your ****ty clamps? Just throwing out an idea. I honestly am hoping its something simple like clamps, but...I just want to be that guy lol

and just found out home depot has no t-bolts lol.

This happened to me when I upgraded to a biggie IC. The CEL goes away after a few key cycles, basically its telling you that you have lost pressure (as though you didnt know already).
For me I was more careful of WHERE I placed the clamps on the couplers in relation to the pipes. I had to make sure it wasn't slight crooked in relation to the bead, otherwise one side would start to give, causing the whole coupler to blow. Also don't clamp right on the bead, do it a few inches away, this gives the silicon coupler a more secure grip on the pipe and bead.
The best reason I can postulate as to why it did this after a few weeks, was I had a dramatic cold spell come into town, possibly causing some extreme boost spikes.

Upgrade to t-bolt clamps on all of your charge pipes guys. The hold a lot better, with more force than the oem clamps. Also, spraying alittle hairspray inside the coupling helps, but it will be alittle tougher to remove the coupling down the line.
I have the same Injen UICP and it has blown off on me on 2 occasions. I bought some vibrant couplers and t bolts clamps and have never had a problem since. CEL will go away. The couplers and clamps that come with it are garbage, the couplers are not long enough and the clamps just suck.
Oh and btw don't waste your money getting the UR UICP if you already have the Injen.
All I did was buy the small pipe from UR to replace the black pipe. 60 bucks shipped or something like that and just connected it to the Injen and it works perfect!

out of all the solutions this is the best one. Get some really strong hair spray and spray both the pipe and inside of the coupler. Mine use to blow off all the time until I used this old school DSM trick. Has worked EVER since and its been now 3yrs.. on 32psi on a large frame turbo.
It sounds like an installation issue.
The same thing happened to me when I installed mine.
I made sure the end that goes into the turbo was far enough so the clamp was behind the bead roll.
Once you have that end done, the part that connects to the outlet on the IC will be fine since it's a bit longer.
You don't necessarily need new clamps. I have the UR full intercooler piping (lower and upper 2 pipe) connected to an EvoX FMIC. The top blew off once when I realized I had the clamp not even on the black turbo inlet!!! I had tightened it around nothing haha.
Luckily, I pulled over RIGHT away and never got a CEL. I had to re-tighten it while it was super hot. Not fun...But just make sure the end that goes into the turbo is back far enough so the clamp is behind the bead roll. You shouldn't have any problems.
Are you running a stock turbo?

thanks for all the responses guys...
I actually replaced the IX bpv with the plastic stocker and it seems like Ive regained some power and boost. Im assuming there may have been a problem with the spring.
Also will be doing everything you guys mentioned. New and bigger couplers to overlap a big surface area between connections, t-bolt clamps and the hair spray trick...I actually thought at first it was a joke lol..and yes im running stock turbo. I also will be buying that 90 degree elbow that goes from the UICP to the I/C..
Thank Yousss
