Question Engine warning light came on

I drive a 2012 Ralliart, which is at 2700km right now. 3 weeks ago, my Engine warning light came on as I started the engine as usual. Then it went off on the second day. But here we go again, the light came on as I started the engine. I don't know if I should go to the dealer, since the light could be off again by tomorrow. Would the dealer do anthing about it if I tell them the light WAS on? Any suggestions or experience?

It doesn't hurt to bring it in to at least start documentation that you are having issues. I'm honestly not sure if codes are stored in the computer even after they no longer are displayed. Either way you are under warranty and you have a brand new car so I wouldn't take the chance of not going.

If it comes on you can always just go to a autozone or advance auto and have them scan the code for you. It's free, and you will at least know what code it was and be able to give that to the dealer in case it turns off before you get to the dealer.

Better yet, invest in a cheap pocket scanner that hooks up to obd II. You don't need anything fancy just something that will display the code.

The code is stored in the computer of your car.

It could be a P0140 or P0139 or a P050B. Those are the most common engine lights that come on and go away.

It probably is nothing. If warranty covers it for free it might be nice to get it diagnosed. But try not to waste to much time/gas money on stuff like that.

Also plug your car in to keep the oil pan warm, especially up there in Edmonton!

The car will store the code for ~40 good drive cycles so if you bring it in they can look it up, a generic obd2/can reader may not pick it up.

Appreciate for the advice guys. I will take it to the dealership and let them scan it and see what happens.

They didn't give me a block heater with the car. I went to Canadian tire to get one, they said the car is too new, they didn't have it for 2012 RA yet.

I actually heard a whining noise when I started the enigne for a couple of times when it was below -20°C. I m going to ask the for a block heater.

CDN tire is full of stupid people. Never ask them for advice...well the ones in Winnipeg are stupid people.

Any who the dealership sells them for 30 bucks..same as CDN tire im sure. And your engine block is the same as my 2009. They have it available. its 30 $ and you can install it yourself on an oil change. Its as easy as unscrewing a bolt and screwing in the element.
