Radio not responding, but music still playing

My 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer's radio is having problems. The lights, clock, buttons and display are all non functional. But music still plays when the car is on, but I cannot control anything other than that as the buttons don't work. I have tried changing the fuse for the radio, but all it does is stop the music when it's out, and let it play when it's in, but all the other problems stay.

But beware! The CD players are usually bad (play out of one channel only) so if getting an OEM replacement - get a receipt/return if defective (and do not buy used).

Consider aftermarket radios (more capability/more durable/less expensive even with dash and wiring adapters).

Did you replace the radio or touch anything on the car lately before it started happening?

I had no idea this was a common problem - I thought this was just mine.

Assuming you're talking about a CD player (with the CD slot next to the knobs and the display above), it sounds like the circuit board on the dash piece is either broken or disconnected. You could disconnect / reconnect the harness to see if that does anything.

+1 on replacing the whole thing with aftermarket if you can't get it to fire up.
