brake specs?
From a new Mitsubishi corporate news release (http://media.mitsubishi-motors.com/p...etail1785.html):
Also helping to significantly raise the basic performance attributes of these cars over the Lancer base model are 2-pot caliper front brakes and a larger brake master cylinder. |
I think it's specific to the Ralliart. The GTS has the same brakes as the current Ralliart, just attached to a bigger rotor.
|
That's good to know that the new RA will be getting 2-pot front calipers. Wish the rotors were bigger though. A bit small for a car that weighs 3,400+ lbs.

Is this specific to the Ralliart, or is this just a description of the GTS brakes, or something very much like them? The brakes are the same as those on the GTS which are the same as those on the Outlander SUV. I know they work great on the GTS, not sure how they'll handle the extra power and weight of the Ralliart. |

Poorly. Look at the reviews. Even with summer rubber, significantly longer stops than the GTS.

Let's hope so. Glad I'm not shopping for an '09.
|
According to ROAD AND TRACK the '09 RA's are getting 2 piston front calipers:
http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....rticle_id=6887 "Brakes are virtually identical to those on the Lancer, the only change being the Ralliart's front calipers are two-piston versus the Lancer's single-piston. " pllllllease let this be correct :D |
It IS correct, by my understanding. 60-0 stops are still terrible though.
|
It usually always takes 1 model year for them to work out the bugs.... and it's also usually never good marketing when your base cars perform better than their more expensive siblings.
|
The front brakes are too small and the tires are too skinny for such a heavy car in the RA.
|
I think I read 60-0 stops of 128 feet. These brakes need to be a bit bigger. Those are aweful numbers for a sporty car. Maybe some high temp brake fluid, stainless lines and better pads will help? I wonder how swappable Evo Brembos would be? I see this done on older imprezas from STIs periodically.
