Driver's side Fog Short?
 

So here is an odd one; last night sitting in traffic I notice that my driver's side fog light is out. I changed the bulbs about 1.5-2 months ago (maybe 100 hrs total use so far) to yellow H11's, which look awesome BTW. Anywho, I get home and take out the fog light housing to see what the deal is. Its way too soon for the bulb to go out, but I check them anyways and sure enough the bulb was still good, nothing broken. Then I check the plug to make sure its fully connected, seems secure.
I'm highly doubtful its a fuse issue, because its only on one side??? Mitsu wouldn't have separate fuses for each fog light, would they?
So what else could it be? What else can I check to find out why only the drivers side fog is out???

Did you confirm the bulb was still good by looking at the filament or did you plug the drivers side bulb in the left side to confirm. If not then I would try that first.

Bulbs are very delicate and need TLC when installing. If the bulb has any oil at all on the glass it will create a hot spot and will kill the bulb fast. An other thought would be that the "yellow" bulb may have just had a poor build quality and was the reason for the short life. Both are very likely.

curiosity question: what type of yellow bulbs are they?

That was my first thought. Years ago I had the same thing happen when I replaced a headlight bulb in my wife's Civic, and carelessly touched the bulb glass.

The filament in a halogen bulb gets up to 4,500 degrees F, so you can imagine how hot the glass can get. Anything touching this, including oil from your hands, will probably burn.

I'd try swapping the bulbs to determine if it's a bad bulb or a bad harness/fuse/etc.

$15 for a pair of H11 bulbs seems awfully cheap, though.

Get your self a multimeter or test light and check for power.

...and ground ;)

Have you tried taking the good bulb from the opposite fog housing to test if it is a bulb or conection issue?

If it lights up in the socket where the bulb wasnt working then it would be safe to assume its the bulb. If not, then its certainly a warranty issue and id suggest taking it in soon.

Aftermarket bulbs can be very.... inconsistant in their build and reliability. I have in the past solf sets of after market bulbs from various companys that have come back within weeks with burn outs, so i don't think its that uncommon.

If the bulb is burnt out, check the manufacturers warranty on the bulbs themselves. It varies from company to company

So it was the bulb. I took the passenger side fog housing unit and plugged it into the drivers side (to see if there was a short in the line), and it worked just fine. Odd though, cuz the bulb looks just fine, not cracks, filaments intact, etc. Oh well just have to buy a new set, thanks guys!

I hate to say this but expect the same outcome. It may work just fine but cheap bulbs like the ones you purchased are not well made. It could last for years but not likely. I'm sure the yellow light in the fogs look very cool though!! {thumbup}
