Spectre MAF adapters
Spectre MAF adapters
OK While perusing the Ultimate Racing website I was checking out their "Short Ram Intake" https://www.ultimate-racing.com/xcar...&cat=76&page=1 I got to thinking, it's nothing more than a MAF adapter and an open element high flow conical filter. (and according to them, doesn't require a re tune).
I couldn't help but compare their short ram kit to the adapters sold by Spectre. In particular these two: http://www.spectreperformance.com/#CATALOG.9705 http://www.spectreperformance.com/#CATALOG.9405. You'll notice that both of those kits come with sleeves to ensure that the MAF is maintaining proper diameter.
The Spectre kits can be ordered from Advance Auto Parts and they stock the universal filters. Combined, they are less than $50. About a $110 cheaper than the UR kits and although they are only a chromed plastic piece and not machined aluminium, you could easily scuff and spray with textured wrinkle finish (or truck bed liner) and flat black BBQ paint.
They also offer heat shields as well as a completely enclosed "air-boxes" that can be attached to flexible ducting and maybe mated up to the oem duct-work.
Thoughts? Concerns?

I've got like 4 of the MAF adaptors, 2 from ebay, 1 from when i bought my evo MAF, and one that came with that came off one of those name brand "cold air intakes"....they are all the same though. 2 have broken, but not badly...they could still be used, but I figured replace em if I got em. Anyhow, yeah, they work great, add some good sound, only supporting them is typically an issue, as far as where they sit. In my car, it's easy, just snugs between the light and battery, in a way it doesn't damage the air filter element.
I bought K&N air filter as well, instead of spectre brand.

Advanced Auto Parts is not where you want to go for mods, we have plenty of vendors on this site who manufacture QUALITY parts. Yes they cost a bit more, yes they're worth every penny.
IMHO if you ever consider there could be the possibility of any "spirited driving" after you change your intake, it would probably be best to play safe and get a tune.
And by the way if you are not considering any spirited driving, you might just have bought the wrong car.
FWIW K&N drop in filters are cheap, provided decent results on the Import Tuner dyno test of our cars, and do not require a tune.
