I've sprung a leak!

Just recently I've noticed a small leak of what looks to be engine oil coming from somewhere between the tranny/oil pan. I crawled under there today and pulled off the plastic shield (which was thick with oil and mud collecting on the top-side). It's hard to say exactly where it's coming from, considering it's managed to travel halfway down the underside of the car from highway driving. The drain plug/filter are both clean but the left side of the oil pan (towards the center of the car) looks more oily than the other spots it's collected. I couldn't find the leak, but it's going in the shop on Tuesday to figure it out. :thumbdown

So they told me it is a transmission fluid leak. They're keeping my car overnight until Mitsubishi gets back to them with a solution.

ugh... hope u get that taken care of;

I've always said it, never buy a car when it's first released.... but I always end up doing the same thing :lol:

Yeah...I tell myself the same thing regarding cars, electronics, etc....I just couldn't hold off. And the worst part about all this is the Chevy HHR rental I've gotta drive around til it's ready...

technically the RA isnt new, the motor's been around since 2007, so it might just be a factory mess up or something

Hopefully. Once the 5-speed comes out, I might trade up if I'm still having troubles in a year.

Or trade down. I have to imagine an RA with a manual would be significantly cheaper.

velocityhead Jul 8, 2009 01:09 PM

Err that's what I meant...trade it for a 201X 5-spd Ralliart

Talontsi150 Jul 10, 2009 09:32 PM

It happen to me 500 miles on my RA and it leaked Tranny fluid.. Mitsu but a brand new Tranny in my car.... I would like to go into details, but My typing is not the greatest.

Did they give any explanations as to what went wrong?

The dealer still has my car until next week sometime...apparently they had to take pictures of the tranny and send it into Mitsubishi to figure out what they need to do. If they try to pull some "you abused your transmission" crap I'm gonna flip my lid. I've been babying that thing and haven't launched it once.

Talontsi150 Jul 12, 2009 05:07 PM

No they will not try to pull any abuse crap.. They tranny is leaking internally. Mitsu corp knows its a issues. I dont care how hard you beat the crap out of that car, it still would not leak like that. Thats the reason why the tech at your dealer cant find the leak..

They called me this morning with an update. According to them, they need to "replace the main seal between the torque converter and the transmission". I was under the impression that the SST didn't use a torque converter, but I could be wrong. Maybe they don't know what they're talking about.
